I bought this book as a Chanukah gift for my 4 year old, who in particular loves the "Vegimal" characters. This book tells the story of the origins of the Vegimals -- how they were discovered and grew, and takes the readers on an adventure throughout different sea habitats searching for the vegimals own habitat. The pictures are bright, modern, colorful, detail and completely engaging to both children and adult readers. There are several diagrams in the book that my son loves to examine in great detail -- names of each Vegimal, parts of the Octopod, things to pack on a trip, and different flavors of kelp cake. There's something slightly reminiscent of a Richard Scarry illustration and yet a bit more modern and hip. This book is also a great introduction to different sea habitats. I highly recommend this for ages 3-8. Review: Great for fans or not! - My 3.5 yo loves watching Octonauts and she is so excited for this book! If you accept that this is a fictional fun little story then it's perfect for little ones. The imagery is vibrant and engaging, the pull-out with the octopod and glow in the dark pages are a huge hit.
