My audiobooks (in mp3 format), take 3-5 minutes to start playing. Is that normal? Is there a fix so they start playing right away when I push “play”.

If your audio books are in MP3 format then you should be able to listen to them on your PC.  You can then confirm whether there is dead space at the beginning of the file - which is probably the case.

Which is the better way to go, this walker h2, or a headphone amp(portable of course)?

Hello,

We won't be criticizing other's product but our HIFI WALKER H2 is strong enough if you want to use it as an amp. Technically, H2 can drive a headphone up to 150 ohm with detailed and loud sound quality, but we have even tested it with HD650 using the line out port. Of course it is not that perfect but still good.

We are very confident at the power production of H2. And make sure you don't forget the TI Burr Brown DAC 5102.

Can you download audio books from your computer onto this device.  Also, do you have to wear earbuds to hear or can you hear directly from the player?

Yes absolutely! you can download audio books from your computer onto this device. Our player supports a huge number of different audio file formates including DSD, DFF, FLAC, APE, WMA Lossless, M4A, AAC, OGG, MP3, and WMA.
Unfortunately, the H2 does not include an external speaker but you do not have to wear earbuds to listen to the music since you can connect your bluetooth speaker to our player. However, the earbuds included are manufactured with high quality material and lots of effort. You will never be disappointed!

How long is the playing time with the battery. Is there a protective case that comes with it?
