Review: Great set of paints with a good range of colours - It's been literally decades since I last painted miniatures, so I'm still finding my feet going back to it. I used to use the old Citadel Miniature paints that came in tiny metal pots, which I think by the end of my time painting had moved onto plastic pots. I would be using Citadel/Games Workshop paints now if they didn't seem ridiculously expensive. So I did some research and found out that the Vallejo paints were highly regarded and a cheaper alternative. So I got them and have started painting a cool Dwarf Miniature that I found on Etsy (3d printed). I haven't got very far with the pairing yet, as I'm fitting out in between lots of other things and being a perfectionist I don't want to meet it up. I haven't used all of the colours yet, but the ones I have seem good to me. the colours go on well and I've also been trying the use of Acrylic follow improver to thin it down rather than use water. The results are good in my opinion, I just need more time to finish the miniature. If I am allowed to edit this post at a later stage I will add a picture of the completed miniature. I'm not sure I'll ever get back to the same level as my Golden Demon Award winning days! In my opinion you get a good selection of colours for a more reasonable price and the paint itself seems to have good flow, consistency and coverage. Either use a thinning agent or if your ground water is clean then you can use tap water. I would suggest seeing squidmar's video on YouTube about airbrushing basics. **Q: Is there a massive difference between the model vs game paint by Vallejo** A: Yes, a rattle can of primer lasts ages, there are loads of YouTube beginners vids out there too **Q: Can this be used in drybrushing espcially of matte black spray paint** A: To your question: Yes they work well at dry brushing. So long as you dry it on a dry paper towel to your likened consistency. Extra if you want to read more: All these paints work well for most things, but other than the basic things like just painting normally, thinning the paint a bit, or dry brushing: you will need to add some other ingredients depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Adding the paints as a watered down mixture to some superglue and PVA glue can give you coloured goo of sorts. Mixing the paints with some water and dishwashing soap can give you a good alternative to washes. The exact mixing amounts i couldn't tell you. I didn't do it often enough to get super good at it or to even remember a single mixing ratio, before I bought shade paints separately :) Hope this helps. **Q: so you can use these on "plastic" model figures? Do you need a primer? I bought a big box of acrylic paints but they wont paint on my plastic figures.** A: Yes they will absolutely work on plastic, however like most paints they will work much better if the plastic is clean of oils and grease (they often come a little oily from the moulds; just wash in a little water with light detergent, then rinse and dry) AND then you use a primer.
