Biopic following the life and work of French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent (Pierre Niney). The film shows how the young designer cut his teeth at Dior in the 1950s before creating his own couture house with the help of his business partner and lover Pierre Bergé (Guillaume Gallienne). Although Laurent is now regarded as one of the greatest names in the industry, his personal life was full of great difficulties including struggles with mental illness and drug abuse.

Review: Pierre Niney's is perfect at Yves St Laurent - I loved this film. The film itself is beautifully produced, the direction just right, the balance of characters, biographical progress through St Laurent's life, the inclusion of all aspects of his character and life, is very well done, but the outstanding quality of the film is due to Pierre Niney's superb acting. He lives St Laurent and seems to capture the essence of this unusual and so-talented man with all his faults and weaknesses as well as genius and charisma. Highly recommended.

I loved this film. The film itself is beautifully produced, the direction just right, the balance of characters, biographical progress through St Laurent's life, the inclusion of all aspects of his character and life, is very well done, but the outstanding quality of the film is due to Pierre Niney's superb acting. He lives St Laurent and seems to capture the essence of this unusual and so-talented man with all his faults and weaknesses as well as genius and charisma. Highly recommended.

Owning a secondhand YSL jacket in stylish sky blue... yet knowing nothing of YSL himself - thought it time to remedy the situation and purchased this dvd. Personally, brushing aside some of the more bitchy reviews of this film, I found it well crafted & well acted - stylish like the clothes, it must have been fun.... !!! to make and is a credit to all concerned - so thank you to you all for helping preserve and share YSL's memory.
