I want to use this to put around pens to give softer grip for comfort for the elderly, would the whole in the middle be too big?

Hi Lisa. I really don't think this would be suitable, as the outside is far from soft - and this would be extremely cumbersome. I have used it to protect external water pipes from frost. It appears to be watertight. Sorry that I cannot be all that helpful. Mike

Is this flexible enough to create an L shape right angle without cutting it please? Are flexible versions of lagging for this purpose available...

Hi I think you could bend it 90 degrees but it would crease the foam. It isn’t the most flexible on the market- I use it to lag pipes going to radiator.
