Review: Impressive and weighty - Over time, many of us have quickly checked an online dictionary for a correct spelling or a brief meaning of a word but that is liking eating a plastic apple when you can have the real thing. There is nothing so interesting as delving into a dictionary and finding your eyes moving to other entries. I will admit to never having owned an Oxford version before and so decided to correct that. This book is huge, heavy and worth every single penny you have to pay for it. The print is clear and readable throughout, the content goes further than a simple definition of a word and it is a mine of useful information. The paper quality is excellent for a tome of this size and there is no bleed from one page onto the next. This is definitely one of the best reference books I have ever owned and, provided you don't have to carry it around from one location to another, this is the dictionary every home needs. As for the thesaurus entries, I found them helpful and concise. Few people ever need pages of synonyms and to Oxford keeps everything relevant. Perfect addition to my - I was going to say my home library but it sits near my desk now at all time. Review: Value for money - This is a great dictionary. Bought as 'good condition' and not disappointed. The inners are pristine just the spine and cover showing some wear. I love the layout so easy to use. I have bought book glue and tape to repair. Thank you so delighted.

OMG what a bargain.
Came on time well packed (bubble rap and a box) undamaged. So were do I start. This dictionary and thesaurus was a bargain at full price and I would have paid full price and was willing to do so, however I took a chance and bought a reduce one cause it was returned and not in original package for a fraction of the price £7. Omg what an amazing bargain it was. Like I Said no damage at all, perfect. Every house should have a dictionary and thesaurus I’ve been after a good dictionary and thesaurus for a while now. Super happy with the dictionary and the price I got it for. Hope you get lucky like I did. I’ve bought a few things now off Amazon what have been returned and not in original packing and touch wood still not had a bad item and who ever sends them have always packed them well so I get them undamaged. So take a chance and buy the returned items, but not all of them cause I love a bargain too lol. Happy 5 stars. Hope this review was helpful.

A great dictionary and thesaurus...but heavy
Bought a number of these for an Adult literacy class about 4 years ago and they are still going strong. In September they'll be passed on to their latest group of students and they are still in very good condition. That'll be the eighth class to use them. Their hard back and large size is probably what saves them as these are not books that will be easy knocked of desks etc... so they are perfect for my needs as they stay in the room. However if you were to actually carry this about in your bag all day you might struggle. I lent some to a few students a couple of years ago and this was their only complaint, they could really have used something smaller and lighter.

I own many dictionaries (including the unabriged OED). This is the one that is on my desk and used every day. It is useful, readable, compact and complete. Combining the best dictionary with an outstanding thesaurus, Oxford has produced the finest reference work of its kind available. Recommended for students, offices and anyone who is tired of juggling four or five reference books in "case you might need them". Clear the decks. This is what you're looking for.

I have ordered this twice. I gifted one copy to my nieces. This book contains words that are not nouns so it is easy to find the required word. The OXFORD, DICTIONARY OF ENGLISH, is full of nouns which makes it difficult to find the word. I highly recommend this book. Although this book has less synonyms than the OXFORD THESAURUS OF ENGLISH. Thank you Oxford, thank you Amazon.

I very much like the word finder as it gave extra information about the world. It also gives synonyms and antonyms as well as word meanings of each and every word of English. Five stars from me.
