Would you say this machine is better than the Zutter Version 2 Bind-it-All? & if so/not, how (please could you give any examples?) Ta

Hi AlexandraI now own the Cinch, and I had your exact question when I needed to decide which one to buy. So I am happy to tell you about what I found out in the research (internet and youtube) and why I bought the Cinch rather than the Zutter. The right decision in hindsight, having used it now for quite a while. It is a fabulous, user-friendly, sturdy little machine and does exactly what you expect from it. I think there are a number of factors that you may want to consider when you decide between the two. What's a bit tricky is that people who own the Zutter seem to love it and people who own the Cinch love theirs, so I think often people like what they are used to. Some people like the Zutter because it's lighter and smaller. Which is an advantage if you have storage issues or travel around with it. For me ultimately this was its main disadvantage because I bind journals rather than little pads or calendars, and I didn't want to punch more than twice at the most per page, which I think you'd have to do with the Zutter because it is much smaller and punches fewer holes per row. From what I gathered on the videos on the Zutter you slot the paper in from the top and then you punch but you can't see what you're doing, and then you move the paper along and punch another set etc. This I couldn't handle. I wanted to see the punching on my paper in action, know exactly where my holes would be, and adjust there and then, punch once, or twice at the most, per page. I couldn't be bothered with working rows of holes out. Put paper, eyeball, adjust and punch is more my style ....The Cinch is a bit like a very big hole punch, and it has a chunky handle which makes pulling down and punching easy and effortless which I like. Another discussion point I remember was hole shape. The Zutter has rectangular holes and the Cinch round ones. I like the round holes, they look fun and less industrial, Zutter fans on the other hand like the rectangles as they think it looks more professional. It comes down to personal preference. I like things round and flowing rather than angular.Availability of wires should not be a factor for you because although the Zutter wires are much more widely available in the UK they fit the Cinch so that's no deal breaker. Another thing I like on the Cinch is that is has a row of hooks along its side. You hook your wire on there when you want to assemble your book and you can then put your pages on the wires without them being all wibbley wobbley. Brilliant! Another thing you should probably research is the punch strength of both for the kind of covers you use. I use quite thick covers and the Cinch punches through them well. I can't remember whether the Zutter punches through the same thickness of cover, but it's something you should check. There was criticism of the Cinch for not giving you perfectly round wires in the binding - shaping the O - when you press down. This is a valid criticism, they are indeed not perfectly round. But I find that if you do it gently and move the wires around a bit and press three or four times slowly, a bit at a time, rather than in one quick action, the wires are fine. In summary I love my Cinch and am so glad I decided on it despite there being more Zutter than Cinch fans out there in web-world. It's always on my desk and when I need it I grab it, and punch. Shove in paper, pull knobs I don't need, and pull handle. Done. It is so easy I've let my 9 year old goddaughter make her own little book.So, hopefully this helped a little. Happy researching. UK users can you use other wire binders for this machine?

Hello there, I find that the cinch wires are actually hard to find in the UK. I use the bind it all wires which are widely available on the internet.

What size wires does this take?

You can use lots of different sizes, depending on your project. Just google for the wires, or go to YouTube and you'll see for yourself. I've used from 3/4in to 2.5in. Hope this helps. The wires also come in loads of colours.

does it go through card?

I have successfully punched through single sheet 340gsm card stock and 5mm flexi plastic.

Long awaited purchase!

I’ve wanted a Cinch for years but always been put off by the price. Seen a good deal of £80 and decided to go for it. I love the machine! I was put off by reviews saying it was hard to use. I watched a YouTube video and then followed advice of other reviews of using scrap paper to practice. If you pay attention to what your doing, it’s easy. However, a couple of times I didn’t double check and I hadn’t pushed the paper to the back and messed up. The rule check twice cut once is definitely true here!!! The instructions included are good but watching a YouTube video first made it much easier. The machine is compact and I especially appreciated that the handle has a clip and so it stores smaller. This kit doesn’t come with binds so make sure you buy! I probably don’t bind enough to warrant this machine but I’ve loved being able to make bespoke notebooks or art books! If you bind, it’s a great price for a great piece of kit!

Why Didn’t I Buy This Sooner?

Why didn’t I buy this sooner? This is my first time book binding and the We R Memory Keepers Cinch made it incredibly easy to use straight out of the box. The punches are clean and accurate, and I love how flexible it is for creating different notebook sizes. It feels sturdy, well made, and very beginner friendly. Perfect for crafters who want to make custom notebooks without the stress. Highly recommend.

I ADORE THIS MACHINE

Love, love, love this machine! I had the earlier version and have just updated to this, and am so happy I did. Much improved on the earlier version - the dial is now on the top to change the size for the O wires (I had trouble seeing the sizes on the side of the older model). This machine now takes a lot of different sizes of O wire, too. (Unlike the earlier model, which has 2 gaps/slots at the back of the machine where the O wires are squashed down. This is to house an adapter -which you have to buy separately, then slot in, to take smaller wire sizes). I never did manage this properly, so was overjoyed to see it isn't necessary with the new machine. So all in all, the new model is exactly what you'd expect from WeRMemoryKeepers: sleeker, more efficient, and just overall a wonderful machine which punches through thick bookboard, all that stuff! Can't live without it, and I highly recommend everyone checks out Heidi Swapp's tutorials on YouTube for some great bookbinding ideas.

Very impressed

I will update if anything changes but I received this yesterday and I'm really impressed with it. With the sizes I wanted to do it did take a little bit of calculation and practice to get the right size so I just made sure that I kept a list of how to punch it for next time. Wanted to make my own sketchbooks and this definitely fits the bill and was able to punch through sketchbook covers with ease. PLEASE ALSO NOTE you don't have to use cinch wires, as long as you buy 2:1 pitch wires these will work as this is all I had, as the cinch wires are way too expensive to justify. The instructions are good, but I'm not sure they're thorough enough but there are a huge amount of videos online if you like but to be honest a lot of it is common sense
