Absolutely brilliant clock for my mother with dementia. I had bought a cheaper clock a few months ago but decided my mother's peace of mind was worth the extra expense. She was constantly confused about the day and time of day. We received this clock and installed it by her bed. So impressed we ordered another the next day for the kitchen. The clock is fantastic. Just plug in and it sets itself, no complicated instructions. (It does have extra functions such as alarms which I haven't tested) The display is very clear and easy to read close up or from a distance. It dims slightly at night so good for bedside. The time of day eg morning/afternoon is a really good feature - some clocks similar to this do not seem to have this feature. My mum hasn't asked me once since we got these 'what day is it?' Would not hesitate to recommend.

Very good quality and just what my mother-in-law needed

My previous review was mostly on the safe and timely arrival of this item (which received 5 stars from me). This purchase was for a elderly relative who has managed to break two previous clocks, partly, I suspect, in order to ring me to ask me the time. This clock is easy to read and spells the day and month in full. This is useful to one whose eyesight, and other faculties, are failing. As promised in the description there were no references to reduced cognitive ability, or any other ability, on the packaging or in the instructions. I feel that this is important and is appreciated. The programming/adjustment seems to be proof against tampering as the key (contained in the instructions) is not on the clock itself. The internal battery is a nice idea but I wonder how long it will last exposed to a person who has to be persuaded not to, on safety grounds, turn everything off at the socket at night (even the telephone and fridge). One small criticism: This is a mains clock and the mains lead plugs into the RH side. There is, however, space only for one attachment to the wall. Thus the weight of the lead pulls the clock off balance. This was a source of much anxiety to its recipient until I added a small picture hook directly below and centred on the clock to hold the lead. There are probably sound design or engineering reasons why the clocks mains socket cannot point directly downwards from the bottom centre of the clock or in fact why the socket cannot be turned through 90 degrees and the plug being recessed into the casing from the centre of the clock. However, how about a small clip in the centre of the housing into which the lead could be inserted so that the tension was in line with the wall attachment point. I doubt whether this solution would cause huge problems and would certainly have helped with the anxiety created by a crookedly hanging clock. I will not take a full star off my review for this fault as the product itself does exactly what is is described as doing and that very well. Under the same circumstances I would repurchase this item and consider it good value for money.

I got this for elderly mother who has mild dementia can no longer remember what day it is. She loves the clock, as the day of the week and the time are nice and clear. There are several similar items available, and I chose this one as I thought the day of the week and time would be clearest. However, my mother looks at the clock from the other side of the room, about 2.5 metres away, and the text size for both the date and for a.m./p.m. is too small for her to read properly, though I could easily read them. I guess there's a space issue on the screen: if the date were bigger, something else would have to be smaller. The clock runs off mains power, so it has to be fairly near a power source. The total cable length is something like 1.5 or 2 metres, I think, but I'm not able to check it exactly at the moment. The 8" screen is the same size as all the others I could find on Amazon, which is OK, but wouldn't want to be smaller. I can see a use for a bigger one, as it would be easier to see across the room (e.g. on the mantelpiece) and easier to fit the date in bigger characters. You can change the order of the display, and you can also choose 24 hour clock (which would deal with the a.m./p.m. issue, I guess). However, this clock does not have an option to display simply "It is now Tuesday afternoon". Some similar clocks have that display, and I think some can switch between that and the kind of display on this clock.

Purchased for my dad who is in a residential home as he was developing a habit of phoning to ask questions without thinking about what time he was phoning, so now he looks at his clock and we do not get calls in the middle of the night. Very clear and easily readable, Provides a degree of independence for the user as the only need to check the clock to know that time and date, Instead of having to ask for this information and becoming embarrassed or upset at having to do this. A number of people have asked me for the product details so that they can purchased, they were so impressed. Only one negative, I wish I had discovered this product earlier!

Ordered the clock with 8 programmable reminders, received the cheaper version one with !!!ONLY 5!!! programmable reminders. Disappointing. Double check before using!
