Would this work well on old floorboards, as other paints aren’t hard wearing enough

This works as the perfect primer. I have used this on old floorboards, followed by Little Greene Floor oil based undercoat and finished off with Little Greene Floorpaint. This was done three and a half years ago and it still looks brand new.

Is this the shelac 4 base version

Not sure. It doesn't have a shiny finish, it's a Matt finish. Maybe you could describe it as very slightly 'egg shell'. It's a very good product and covered sky blue plaster board in one coat with ease. It's also much thinner than normal paint (surprisingly) so, if you buy it and intend to apply it with a roller brush, be prepared for some spatter.

Is this good for sealing nictotine smells?

I have a rented property which had a very stained ceiling in the lounge. I sugar soap washed and then painted, it is very thick so you use more than you think. After 6 months there is no sign of the stain or smell. Very happy with the product
