Don't know. We bought this mandoline twice, the second as a replacement. On both occasions whilst trying to slice potatoes the reversible blade broke at its spot welds. The two parts were only held together by 4 spot welds. Personally I would find another make

Have any chefs used this at all?

I'm a retired chef who missed this piece of kit at home. Unlike conventional mandalins this hand held one is very convenient really sharp easy to use and has 3 thicknesses. I like the way it has a ridge on the underside so it can be steardely fixed over the edge of any dish bowl or pan. The handle has spikes under it So the food item stays on and stops safely once finished. You can also lock the blade while cleaning. All in all I'm really impressed with my gadget it's a great quality piece of kit at a reasonable price I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone I would definitely consider other items from this range.

Will it slice tomatoes?

The answer to your question is no.It will slice about half then as the tomato becomes softer it becomes impossible.
