Inkbird ITC-308S Temperature Controller Digital Thermostat Controller with 1.97 Inches Replacement NTC Probe for Heating and Cooling

Very good product, I use this with a heat pad, and a home made insulated box for fermenting beer. This inkbird controller is much better than the previous controller I had and offers control for both heating and cooling. It has very accurate control perameters, and is easy to use and set, with a detachable heat probe. There was also a good deal on when I bought it and managed to get a discount with Amazon as well, so it turned out to be excellent value for money. I only use mine for heating on my set up as I don't currently have any additional space for making a dual fermenting chamber from a fridge.

This is an absolute must for anyone looking to protect their fish in their aquarium. With heaters in tanks constantly on an on/off cycle. It's not if they will fail. But when. Thanks to this simple cost effective device. It ensures it protects your fish and gives you the time to spot the issue and replace your heater. Also clever that it can also control a fan to cool the tank when it gets too hot. Highly recommend!

In a nutshell this device will keep your fermentation at the right temperature with no intervention from yourself. It does this by monitoring your fermentation with a temperature probe and switches the power on and off to either the heater or the cooler socket depending on your set-up. You can choose from two different length probes when you purchase the unit a 2" or a 12" sensor, the length refers to the stainless steel tip. In the UK particularly in winter, the unit will only be switching the power on and off to your heater. In my case the temperature of the unit is to set to 23.5C with a permitted variance of +/-0.5C. The fermentation bucket or carboy is sat on a heat mat; inside the bucket or carboy I place a stainless steel thermowell stopper (purchased separately) and inside that I place the temperature probe (that comes with the unit). That's it, sit back and know that the Inkbird thermostat is taking care of things. The product itself is well made with sturdy cables, a clearly marked moulded pair of sockets for heating/cooling and an easy to use controller. The cables joining the unit and plug are premoulded and have kink protection. It also has a hook so it can be attached to the wall for easy visibility. The sensor probe can be unplugged from the main unit to allow for cleaning if required. My only criticism and it is a small one is the price, perhaps a little on the expensive side? I bought this after an aquarium heater failed and overheated my tank. Fortunately this occurred while I was at home and I was alerted with a high temperature alarm. When heater thermostats fail and lock on, the water temperature can become lethal within a couple of hours. I've lost fish before because of this type of failure so after a close shave I decided to buy the Inkbird ITC-308S. Setup was easy. Initially I installed the probe in the tank to get the average running temperature. I then set the target temperature (SV) to the temperature obtained previously & the heating differential (HD) to 0.3 centigrade. I also set the high temperature and low temperature alarms to 1 centigrade either side of the target temperature. I'm unlikely to use the cooling circuit of this device but it's available if we ever get a heatwave in the North of England! Update 26/07/18: Heatwave arrived 2018! The cooling option is working well with an air stone (to break the water surface) and a 4" USB powered fan placed downwards over the feeding hatch. The Cooling differential (CD) is set to 0.3 Centigrade so my aquarium temperature stays within 0.3 degrees of the target. Brilliant. Update 11/01/2020: After 2 years of use, I noticed the controller was reading 2 degrees Celsius higher than actual. I have been cross-referencing the reading with a couple of thermometers and until recently the temperature of all 3 was within 0.5 Celsius of each other. I have recalibrated the controller by altering the CA offset by - 2.0 degrees Celsius. I will keep an eye on this and if it wanders further will buy a new sensor.

I went for the Inkbird ITC-308S version, and a good job too, because the temperature probe failed after 18 months. Ordered a new temp probe (same 1.97 inch version) for £9.99 from Amazon and the unit works perfectly again. I'm surprised the probe failed because it's had a quiet and easy life in a tropical tank. Nonetheless, the unit proved its worth earlier when an aquarium heater became stuck on. The ITC-308S successfully detected the rising water temperature and killed the power - so saving the tank. The main unit is a little bigger than I was expecting, and the instruction manual requires several slow and careful reads to get your head around the settings. The settings are actually very simple but not explained in a simple way. Good value for money, overall.

This works pretty well. It seems to be very robust and will last quite some time. Setting it is a little tricky as it also has facilities for active cooling as well as heating - so if you are only using it for heating (or cooling) there are menu settings that you need to cycle through that may not be of interest to you unless you've got both heating and cooling systems attached. The booklet is reasonably good, and the temperature probe seems to be pretty accurate. It's nice that the temperature probe can be replaced - which should lengthen the useful life of the device. Very happy with it!

My old refrigerator stopped regulating temperature so I was going to scrap it. I came along this product and now my fridge lives again! Accurate temperate control. Super easy setup. I was worried that there would be a loud relay clicking sound when it actuated, but nothing. Absolutely perfect product and I don’t even think I’m using it for its intended purpose. I won’t use the heat output so I can’t comment on it. Highly recommend!

It's great device but Inam giving negative reviews because: 1. The device is locked in heating whenever the SV temperature is lower then the ambient temperature. 2. They don't replies to email support. Item will be returned if not fixed
