You can't go wrong with these pedals. I have them on three bikes. They're not too heavy, are well made and last ages. I find that there's plenty of lateral movement for my feet and as they're double sided they are easy to clip in and out of. I can't recommend highly enough.

They just work......and work, and work

Excellent. Easy to fit and adjust. Been using for a couple of months now with no issues. Definitely speeds up your ride from normal pedals. Easy to clip on and off as you can use both sides of pedals.

Shimano have been making these for many years and I have them on all my (N+1) bikes, including a full carbon road bike, hybrid computing workhorse, small-wheel folder and Dawes Galaxy tourer. No exceptions. They work reliably well and have bearings that seem to go on forever (caveat: I don't ride much off-road). They're very easy to setup and adjust and very forgiving for beginners (I was one once and never came off because I couldn't unclip in time). Given the entry-level price I find these to be well engineered and great value for money. As long as Shimano keep making them I don't see myself riding anything else.

A basic Shimano SPD pedal that is very reasonably priced.

My friend recommended these SPD style pedals for my first road bike vs the SPD-SL ones. He gave me an old unbranded set but they had seen better days so I bought these proper Shimano branded ones which came with matching cleats.Glad I did as they were much more positive when clipping in and out and I wound them down to the weakest setting which made them much more practical for a beginner like me.I am glad I went for this type as I now have a slightly different Shimano set on my hybrid and I much prefer mountain bike shoes over road bike shoes, they are just more practical to walk around in, and a bit more comfortable too.Great quality, work well, and not bad value either.

I had much trouble with clipping in to road cleats. Came of my bike several times and completely got rid of my confidence and i didn't want to ride anymore. So i went back to flats, but your feet move around and it gets annoying. Opted to give these a go because they are double sided and they remain in the horizontal position whereas the road cleats always fell into the vertical position. Clipping into these pedals is so intuitive, i picked it up near enough instantly and i haven't come off of my bike once. So really pleased to have switched onto MTB cleats, even if i am using them on a road bike.

I use these with my road bike even though that they are more intended for mountain and gravel bikes. Regardless, they work great. Easy to click in and click out of. I had a pair of cheaper SPDs (off brand), I encourage you, spend the extra $20.00 and get Shimano. They are much easier to use. The cheaper brand that I had, were very difficult to click out of. I took a fall because of that. Then one broke after a few months of use where you I could no longer click in at all. I have only had these for a few days, but I can feel the difference in the construction and function of the pedals. Oh, they come with the cleats, too. No need to buy those separately.
