Toned sketch paper grey
Great for small pastel sketches ect, available in several colours. Lovely texture, ideal for soft or oil pastels.

Excellent
I love this format. Adding whites makes highlights sparkle. Watercolour pencil works surprisingly well, smudged with a damp finger not with a brush. The colour sings out but the paper doesn’t buckle unless you use too much water. The small size is just right for a quick scribble. I used cretacolour oil sketching pencils at first, brown on grey. But now am more with sepia inks.

Nice paper for achieving certain effects.
This is the first time that I’ve used this paper. I’ve done a quick test drawing using mixed media, fineliners, ink and white charcoal and it gives a pleasing effect. Nice size for sketching on the go and being spiral bound it’s easy to manage when you’re not sat at a desk.

Thin paper but still sturdy and smooth
Paper was thinner than expected which was worrying at first as I thought it be tear or rip if I erased too much. Luckily this was not the case. I was able to use the eraser a lot and the paper dented a bit with sharper pencils, but did not tear and the colour of paper did not fade when erasing. The paper is smooth, and the grey tone does have little flecks of darker or lighter grey but that's what I expected. So far I have been using WHS water colour pencils on the paper but haven't applied any water yet since I doubt it will be study enough for that. But the colours go on nice and vibrant, although pale colours seem to fade a bit but still looks good. I would recomend to anyone wanting to experiment with coloured paper. It is ideal for both monochrome and coloured works. Delivery arrived on time which was nice.

Perfect charcoal and white chalk companion
I've been converted to using Strathmore paper since last year. It really is a beautifully made paper, it is not too smooth and not too textured, very well balanced. It works so well with charcoal and white chalk, the drawings sort come "come out' by themselves. It is also affordable.

Amazing!
This is probably the best paper I’ve used! I definitely recommend. I find a lot of people not trying out toned paper simply because it’s not the usual white, and I was like that too. But the first time I used it, I was super amazed! I do wish that the paper was a bit thicker (for example, for sharpies, poscas, etc.) but if you’re used to mixed media or craft paper, I can definitely see you liking this product.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting your art journey, the Strathmore 400 Series Toned Gray Sketch Pad is one of those rare supplies that immediately changes how you think about drawing. It is a staple on my desk for several reasons. Why This Paper Is a Game Changer The Mid-Tone Magic: Starting with a cool gray background instead of a blinding white one does half the work for you. Since the paper acts as your "middle value," you only have to focus on adding your darkest shadows and brightest highlights. The Perfect "Tooth": The surface texture is smooth enough for fine detail work but has just enough grit (tooth) to grab onto graphite, colored pencils, and charcoal without it sliding around. Pop Your Highlights: This is where the paper shines. Using a white charcoal pencil or a white gel pen on this gray surface creates an incredible 3D effect that you just can't achieve on white paper. Sustainable Quality: It’s 100% recycled (containing 30% post-consumer fiber), yet it feels premium and acid-free, so your sketches won't yellow or degrade over time.

Just what I wanted. The tone is perfect for adding white pencil and charcoal for gorgeous grayscale drawings. The paper can even handle light watercolour and gouache washes.
