Rips hair and not 100% effective.
I am not convinced this works as thoroughly as other people say it does. I used it exactly according to pack instructions, wet hair, loads of conditioner, brush in one direction, systematically working through the hair over the head, wiping the comb each time to take out any eggs or lice. Firstly it is a night mare trying to take the lice and eggs out of the comb, it takes a lot of wiping, not just one stroke of the tissue/fabric. Secondly it ripped my daughters beautiful, long hair. The comb is badly designed at either side, there is a piece of metal that has not been smoothed off that catches hair and rips it, so the hair is damaged. I am surprised that this was not picked up when testing and trialling the comb before launching on the general market. We combed for daily for 10 days, by which time I had had enough, I was spending about 2 hours every night combing hair of my two children and myself. We still had eggs and lice in our hair and I resorted to using Hedrin. I had wanted to rid our hair of lice by combing only, as others said they have done, but it wasn't possible with this comb. I don't normally give low scores for reviews, but this time I feel I must. This comb seems ideal for short hair, but I wouldn't go near long hair with this comb.

Way too harsh, over engineered and no more effective than a regular plastic narrow toothed comb ..
This comb is certainly sturdy and does remove the disgusting parasites, but like other reviews have pointed out it pulls out my daughter's hair in chunks. She has long fine hair and despite using it on wet hair, laden with conditioner and coconut oil, it's shredded her hair trying to get it through. You decide whether it's worth it, but for me it might be a slight evolution in design compared to the regular plastic type, but it's still a flawed design that needs refining. And even after going through the barbaric process of ripping out my little one's hair, there's still nits. If I'm going to have to do several passes anyway, I'd rather do several passes with a less clinical and harsh comb - back to the plastic one for me. Not overly impressed and I can't see why it's so highly rated when it butchers the hair?!

one serious design flaw
This flaw was mentioned in an earlier review but I want to affirm that it is a real problem. There is a gap in the comb where the teeth emerge, and it is large enough to collect water, lice eggs and nymphs (young lice) inside the circular comb handle. I observed this, and even poured water with a few nymphs out of the handle. Basically you can't be sure if the comb is free of lice, which can easily transfer back to the head you're combing or another head. I also purchased the Bug Buster Kit from the Community Hygiene Concern website (also recommended by other reviewers), and used it immediately after the Nitty Gritty comb had stopped pulling lice from my child's hair. The Bug Buster removed SIGNIFICANTLY MORE lice after I thought my child's hair was clear. The Bug Buster comb can also be cleaned thoroughly. I'll be throwing away the Nitty Gritty comb.

The worst comb ever
I have used some lice combs before but I came to a new place so did not have any. I used this just to make sure I didn't have any lice in my head. Tried it for the first time after shampooing my hair, applying conditioner and with no tangles. I started combing through and my hair stuck inside the comb where the handle is. I pulled it out and a bunch of hair came out stuck to it. But I still tried again following all directions and even asked my mom to do it, it kept pulling at my hair and breaking it. This is the worst comb ever. PLEASE DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR HAIR!!

Nits no more ...... at last!!!!
I have two young daughters (9 & 10), both with fairly long hair. My eldest had the dreaded lice a couple of times about 3yrs ago, but nothing since. My youngest - well she's a different story!! For the past 18mths / 2yrs her head has been a popular tourist attraction for the little critters! We have tried every lotion, potion & 'sworn-by natural remedy' known to man. Of course, when you treat one head, you have to treat them all; so, with 5 in our household it's a pretty pricey pass time! In fact, if we had saved everything we have spent on these 'guaranteed' treatments, we could've had a fortnight somewhere exotic I'm sure!! About 5wks ago whilst sitting behind her on a bus, I saw the all too familiar movement I had been dreading since the last debugging 3wks earlier. I trawled websites looking for something I hadn't tried, and stumbled upon the Nitty Gritty comb. I thought 'there is no way a comb alone can work!', but after reading a chunk of the glowing reviews I thought it had to be worth a bash. I did warn my daughter however that this was the final straw - that if this didn't work, her precious locks would be leaving the comfort of her scalp!! Well 4wks on and my only complaint is that I did not know about this amazing little piece of kit sooner!!!! The first couple of comb throughs were a little unpleasant, watching the army of bugs and its campsite being dropped into the bath; but we have done it every few days since (and on the rest of the family) and whereas before there were visible eggs / egg casings still in her hair after most treatments, now there is nothing!! She is completely free of them, much to my and her relief!!! I have told every parent, grandparent and anyone who has anything to do with children I know about this comb - it really is the best thing since sliced bread!! Easy to use, incredibly effective, ridiculously cheap, chemical-free and comes with a lifetime guarantee! What more could you ask for?!

Ok
This comb is ok but it can only really be used with wet and ideally conditioned hair. Itโs tangles much more easily than a normal metal nit comb even in fine hair. Itโs causes hairs to pull out etc which is rather painful and caused a lot of breakage. It is good, has good grip and will get the nits out but take this into account! Especially if using for a child with long hair. I personally preferred using a metal nit comb that came with some other nit shampoo we had.

Great product - does what it says
I wasted ยฃ34 on two "single use" nit lotions for my girls which didn't remove the eggs. I wish someone had told be about the Nitty Gritty first! They both have very thick, long curly hair and I was dreading getting the comb through, but with the help of the conditioner, it was easy. Both were clear of eggs after first use, using just their normal conditioner. I use it weekly now as a preventative measure. Great product and does exactly what it says. Don't bother with over - the - counter chemicals - this comb is all you need. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars was because I would have preferred more grip on the handle - but that's a personal preference.

Great if you want to damage your hair
I bought this because this was meant to be a fantastic product. The comb should be wider to make the process less lengthy. The combโs teeth are extremely tight together. I get it this is to catch everything, but it made it very hard to run through the hair and if your hair is thick and or long itโs ten times worse even with conditioner. You feel youโre pulling the whole hair through tight metal teeth, not good for the hair either.

Not worth the money, but does what it says on the tin.
Item itself is good, but overpriced for what it is.

Not hygienic!
Even though as a comb it works well removing all the lice, it has a small gap where the lice, eggs and dirt get stuck and is quite hard to clean.
