Compact, lightweight , and powerful
I received this air conditioner a few days ago. I selected it based on the fact that it is "self-evaporative", lightweight, (47 lbs) and relatively small. My husband and I have 3 portable air conditioners now . All of them work well and we like all of them, but I think this unit may turn out to be our favorite . It's kind of a long story, but I learned a lot & got some good info from reading reviews , so I'll tell you what I know. The climate where I live , coastal southern California, has changed a lot in the 50 years I've been here. The summers used to be so mild that older houses like mine don't have air conditioning . It simply wasn't needed. That's the past. My husband & I bought our first PAC a few years ago . This unit is 12,000 BTUs and meant to cool a much smaller area than our living room . Running it full blast morning to late evening it keeps the living room at a much more bearable 77 degrees. This unit is not self-evaporative . We run a hose out the door into a bucket . We use the surprisingly large amount of water we collect to water plants. (This really makes me think about the viability of atmospheric water collection.) The only bad thing is that we've had regular problems with it leaking in the house where the drain hose connects. This can make a mess before we notice anything is going on. We bought the second unit a year ago for our home office/ workshop. This is a 20x12 room with a vaulted ceiling that a previous owner built onto the back of the garage. One wall is mostly glass and it's a little hot box in summer. This time we knew enough to look for a self-evaporative unit . I bought the SPT WA-8088E 8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner , 8,000 BTUs and about 51 pounds. From reading other reviews we understood that elevating the unit would speed up cooling the area. Also from reading reviews I was doubtful about the self-evaporative thing really working . I installed the unit on top of a tall dresser , and suspicion made me hook up a drain hose to a bucket. The unit makes the workroom a lot more comfortable . The unit has never run any water into the bucket at all . The norm for our area has been that it always cooled down at night , but for the past month it has stayed warm all night making it hard to sleep. I decided to buy another SPT-WA for the bedroom. When I looked on Amazon I saw that the price had gone up, and I stumbled on this unit, the COSTWAY 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner. The BTUs are higher and the unit is smaller and lighter. I was a little concerned that we might have to wait a bit for delivery as it was not Prime eligible , but delivery was free and it actually came in two days anyway. We again installed the unit elevated, in a recessed window seat When we turned the unit on it took a few minutes for the air coming out to be cold, but then it did. Our bedroom is 12'x13' . We close up the bedroom and turn it on about an hour before bedtime. In that time it makes the room COLD. Not sure about the evaporation thing yet, but so far so good. If we do have to dump it ,at least the unit is relatively lightweight. One caveat : all of these units came with window kits that were inadequate to our needs. These "window kits are usually about 48" long . Our living room has 4 double sliding glass doors, no "windows". Our studio/office likewise has glass doors, no windows. The windows in our bedroom are 55" high by 68" long. My husband has become adept at adapting the inserts to fit . Because two of these units are installed in doors , and the panels are somewhat wide, for security reasons we feel obliged to remove the assemblies from the openings when we leave the house. The living room unit has a panel that is 10" wide, wide enough perhaps for someone to squeeze through. Another nice thing about the COSTWAY 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is that the panel is slim: It looks to be about 4" wide. With a dowel blocking the sliding window we feel secure enough to leave it in place when we go out. I should really take pictures of the inserts my husband has made and adapted , but I'll have to leave that for another day . I should be doing something else right now, but I am delighted enough with this purchase that I thought it might help someone else if I passed that along. So far we haven't had problems with any of these PACs . Also our electric bills are not astronomical , which was a concern when we went into this.

Ease of use and effectiveness portable A/C unit
I think it’s pretty well built. It cools down right away. Main modes are Cool, Dehumidify and Fan. Comes with the hardware to run the exhaust out of a window (see picture). We bought it to use in our bedroom, cause sometimes at night with the heat on get so hot and we can’t sleep, our old one broke so we decided for this one that is more compact and versatile since combines 3 functions in one, has 8000 BTU, two fan speed and also is a dehumidifier with 50 pints per day dehumidify capacity. What’s nice is that you don’t need a hose or a bucket for the water. The water evaporates and goes out via the exhaust. Remote control: LED screen that tells you the current settings. You can control every single setting with the remote; even on/off. The unit “beeps” every time it received a signal from the remote. Other features… You can select Fahrenheit or Celsius. You can set a Timer. Lights on control panel can be turned off (too bright at night). The “Sleep Mode” will make it quieter during the night. It's not quiet, but the sound it makes is more "white noise" than "noise" and it is a smooth, consistent sound which you can adapt to, the wheels are good an and makes easy to move around. You can move the shutter vertically and horizontally, to change wind direction. Filter slide out rinses easily under a faucet, leaving the air fresh as well as cool. Extremely happy with our purchase, recommended.

Just OK for me.
The 8,000 btu is a nice, slim model. It was easy to handle and maneuvers well on wheels. I have it in my 11x14 bedroom ( only 154 sq. ft. ) and in cool mode - I find it falls a bit short. On an 88 degree night, I set the temperature down as low as it could go, I think 64, had it on all night on high - over 9 hours, shades pulled, door closed and the room only got down to 72 by morning. It wasn't very cool but perfectly comfortable because the air was dry and no humidity. I felt it should have performed better in such a small area going 9 hours on high in cool mode. I also would rather the fins on top to blow air higher since cold air falls. I really can't feel it because the air doesn't get up over the bed and the fins don't adjust straight up. I have an older Sylvania in the living room which is 12,000 btu and it is definitely much better. I would suggest nothing less than 12,000 btu for any room in a house. Overall, it's a nice, decent working, fairly quiet model. If you find your model rattles a bit or gets loud alot of times, it's the casing. I folded up a little piece of a thin noodle box maybe 2 folds and stuck it in the seam on one side of my Sylvania and it absorbed the rattle noise completely. I think insulating the seams with a rubber gasket would have been a good idea on these portables.

Inaccurate specifications
The AC unit arrive today and I quickly unpacked it. Just as quickly discovered that the window kit was too small for my double hung windows. The description clearly stated, "Besides, with window kit, the portable AC unit can be installed in horizontal and vertical windows(suitable size: 26.5"-49.5")." However, the manual said the minimum width was 36" (that's a foot difference. My window is 27" wide and the only way to make it fit would have been to modify (i.e. cut) the sliding insert part of the kit, which would nullify the warranty.

Little unit, but it gets C O L D 😁
My apartment has a built in AC that I cannot remove without maintenance (legal reasons I guess?) and this is not an ideal situation when you have a rather large vinyl record collection that we were concerned would start to "warp" with how hot it was getting. We're on the top floor, full blazing sun from 3 pm to almost 9. This little AC unit is saving us! Its actually almost "too cold" at night now so we end up letting it cycle itself on and off for power saving and the apartment is still nice and chilly. We usually have it to about 72 but on the hottest 90+ degree day we had it at 66 and this little powerhouse made it happen anyway, it was fantastic! We haven't used the remote and probably won't since it's such a small room, but it's a nice addition if you have a larger room to cool. I was hesitant on the price but after some digging found this one to be super cheap in comparison to the ones listed near me in stores. I haven't messed with any of the other functions, but the air in here is a lot less damp and wet too and I haven't had a leak yet. I'm actually sleeping more soundly too without having to wake up covered in sweat, haha. This was a great purchase!

2 out of 3 work perfectly
We bought 3 units. All worked well for about 2 months. Then one of the units started to fill up with water. Due to location of the drain hole you have to mount the unit on top of something to get it to drain continuously. So we let it fill and wheeled it outside to drain. At first it was every couple days it filled then more frequently till it was 5-10 min max in between emptying. It was outside the 30 day return through amazon and we had gotten rid of the original box. We contacted amazon who contacted the seller who got back to us within 48 hours. After several back and forth emails it was made clear to the seller the drain hose was not an option for this unit. The customer service kindly sent a paid return slip and refunded our money. When we told them we did not have the original box they said to keep the unit. We paid $30 to have UPS package it and sent it back before we got the email saying to keep it. I think we would have returned it regardless since it did cool but filled too quickly. The other two units we have had running constantly for 3 months. Have never drained them. They run great. The temperature you set the unit to is the temp coming out of the unit. It is NOT temperature controlled. That was a learning curve but we quickly figured it out. The remotes are interchangeable and work with any unit. When the power goes off the unit auto turns on to dehumidifier mode which is an issue but as long as you know it you can adjust it and avoid draining the unit at 3am. More quiet than my 8 inch fan. Definitely worth the money regardless of small hiccups.

Toast after 5 days
5 days in, came back to a burnt smell and the unit not blowing air. I can hear the compressor working but the fan isn't doing its thing. Waiting to hear back from customer support... P.o.s unit. Honestly dont get it. It worked well when it worked... but the headache of going through service support when it does fail, and it will. Is not worth it. My advice, try somewhere else or dont and find out for yourself, live your own life.

Eh, it's better than nothing!
Ok so my likes are the fact that it's not too heavy to lift, it shoots out ice cold air and it fit perfectly in my window the other one I have has a bunch of weather stripping in it to plug up any open areas and this one doesn't need that...my dislikes are omg the installation! The only difficult part was attaching the hose to the machine! The picture showed you shouldn't unravel the hose yet and it clips right in, nope! After trying that, just about every cuss word there is and youtube videos that didn't work I had the idea to unravel it all the way and slide it in and that worked! It doesn't cool down my living room 100% I leave it on all day and it only goes down 3 degrees at most... but I can say it's about 150$ cheaper than the other one so maybe invest in the more expensive one. Overall I can say I'm glad I have it over nothing at all! My condo would get to 90 degrees and now it's at 80 lol progress!

Works well on household current
I bought an air conditioner once that kept tripping the circuit breaker in my old building. Thought I would never be able to be cool in summer. Found this unit which said it ran on 110v and it works great. It’s a bit loud but does cool down the living room several degrees. The only complaint I have is attaching the exhaust hose was not easy or explained well in manual. I had to tape it in place.

Good
I've been using it for like 2 months now, works good on a big room, the noise doesn't botter me that much but is not silent.

Little powerhouse!
Little power house, nice compact unit, is not too heavy, easy to maneuver, remote is great. It seems turning on the night feature lowers the sound alright but it also shuts off after a time...wish it didn't do this as our apartment is quite warm and it needs to run all night, so we have to put up with it a little louder....you get used to it though. Excellent product! Delivery wasn't too long.

Product performed as intended
The A/C unit performed well in 100 F temperature. It kept the room at about 85 F or about 10-15 degrees below the hottest point. However we occasionally get temps of 115 F and the unit probably will not be able to keep the temp in the 85 F range because of the 10000. BTU capacity. I have wondered if I should have ordered a 15000 BTU unit to have the extra cooling power in the hottest periods. Otherwise this unit operates well and so far I have no issues with it.

Noisy, not cold enough, very disappointed
For starts, I thought I bought 8,000 BTU but yellow energy guide label in box says 5,000. I bought this in June 2021 during Lower Mainland BC Canada heat dome (43c temps). It was meant to be a backup to my older Arctic King a/c in case that one didn’t survive the extreme heat. I made the HUGE MISTAKE of gaving away the old one over this past winter as I decided to start using the Costway a/c this year. BIG MISTAKE!! It had been securely stored for 2 years in original packaging (box never opened). I set it up in my bedroom and was immediately disappointed that the lowest temp setting is 18c, not 16c like other a/c’s. It makes a whirring noise which is more annoying than the motor. It turns off and on when it decides it’s reached optimum cooling temp, but I wake up sweating and frustrated waiting for it to come back on. Very loud, very inefficient and very much a waste of the $600 I paid for it in June 2021. Today is May 27, 2023, and I’ve used this Costway for a total of 9 nights, on and off depending on weather. There will be no tenth!!! I’ve had enough sleepless nights of noise and sweating and frustration. This morning I went online to BestBuy and bought a 12,000 BTU with temp setting starting at 16c (18c is not nearly cold enough). I’ll donate this Costway to a senior’s home where residents are hearing impaired. Someone may as well use it - just won’t be me! Sadly, the extra expense will hurt very much, but as a 64 year old gramma I owe it to myself to be comfortable and sleep well! DON’T BUY THIS A/C.
