You need the interior dimension of the hose or tube you are trying to connect and use this to determine the size of the barb to order. I was trying to connect(couple) a hose with interior dimension of 1/2 inch with a hose with interior diameter of 1/4 inch. This adapter worked perfectly for this coupling. I had to use silicon spray for lube to get the hoses to fit on the barbed adapter. Very tight fit. **Q: Seems like its too large for 1/4 inch tubing to fit; I need to expand the polyethelyne plastic tubing and that's not a good idea?** A: I used these to connect 1/4” ID poly hose and they fit perfectly. I also used the 1/4” to 3/8” hose connectors to connect both of theses sizes of hoses together. I was very pleased with these items. **Q: Can it be used for connecting dishwasher drain hose?** A: I am not sure if these barbs are design for hot water. The 1/4 tubing fits well on the other side. I believe this fitting is for 1/8 ID tubing. When using 5/32 tubing a cable tie or clamp is needed for a leak tight connection. The photo does not match the product being sent, the barbs look different. This should not matter though. A 5/32 barb fitting should fit 5/32 ID tubing.
