If I purchase this kit, could I take it to a shop for repair? Or would I be turned away?

You'll most likely be turned away. Why? Because this is how those places make a profit. They're buying the same replacement pieces and then marking up the price a lot and then also charging for labor. Its way too easy to do it yourself anyways.
