Sonic Frontiers Xbox

Sonic Frontiers is a massive step in the right direction for a series that has fumbles with unnecessary new ideas in it's 3D outings. Sonic Frontiers brings many new ideas to the table but this time they are all great additions that compliment Sonic's signature speedy gameplay, rather than detract from it. The open, nonlinear, world works perfectly for the Sonic formula and the addition of a battle system is very welcome. The music spans various genres from melancholic piano to metal - all uses to great effect and all absolute bangers. Where the game stumbles is where every 3D game has stumbled; the lack of physics and the feeling of momentum building. In the original 2D games, speed was earned by an understanding of the games simulated physics and using geometry to build momentum and gain speed. This is an exhilarating experience and was the true reason these games became so popular. 3D Sonic has never really attempted this and Sonic Frontiers doesn't change that. Which is a huge shame because never before has a 3D game created a world so ripe for momentum based gameplay! In the next Sonic game I would like to see a greater focus on momentum based traversal and an environment which reflects that- more loops and more ramps. I'd like a more vibrant, hand made overworld to explore and a more robust battle system! I'm giving the game a 5 simply because of the potential it represents for a series I love and I do highly recommend it.

This game does Sonic justice. Gfx are great, fast gameplay, smooth with expansive exploration.
