I replaced a cheap 10 dollar latch that I bought from a hardware store with this latch. This is a solid latch with a smooth operation and simple installation instructions. Good quality, and I recommend this latch.

Its made of good metal. It fits and works. The lock is easy to flip with one hand and it looks better than the old one. Very easy to install with one phillips screwdriver in about five minutes.

Instructions were clear and easy and the installation went smoothly -- except for the "break the spindle" part as other reviewers have stated. That was a joke! I finally ended up getting it by doing two things: first I used wire cutters to deepen the score mark (pressed the handle against a countertop to get some weight on it) and then when using the two pairs of pliers, hold the spindle with one next to the line and take the other and turn it 90 degrees so you're facing the spindle head on. Only then can you get enough leverage to break the piece off - no way I could get them to move side-by-side like the diagram showed. Oh, and don't make the same mistake I did and break it at the line still showing outside the door - go for the first line INSIDE the door instead. I had to break it twice to get to the right length. But after installation it functions great and is the perfect replacement for one that had rusted solid!

This is a very basic latch replacement for screen/storm door handle -- not keyed! -- with extra strikes and screws to accommodate different sizes. Installation is a breeze -- took perhaps 5 min. for this senior citizen -- assuming you are replacing a latch that had what is now the standard spacing for the holes. You need to pick the 2 screws of those included (several sizes) to match the thickness of your door. The most difficult part of the installation is simply making sure that you adjust the length of the bar (snaps off to various lengths depending on the thickness of the door) so that the latch will operate correctly from both sides. If you don't snap the bar to the correct length, the inner handle won't latch/unlatch or may not stay locked, or the outer button may seem to latch instead of unlatch. As others have noted, the strike plates with this set are not the spring-bar type but rather the solid type; two different height plates are included, to accommodate all those different types of doors and spacings that have been used in the past. You can also use this with a spring-bar plate, but you'd have to buy that separately for a few dollars. Two plastic shims are also included with this, to allow more finely adjusting the height of the strike used. And as mentioned above, several lengths of the two screws are included, to accommodate different door thicknesses. I am giving this latch set 5 stars for one very specific feature: There is no bothersome easy-to-lose separate spiral spring, as you'd find on almost every other inexpensive latch replacement set. Instead, the spring functionality is incorporated into the outer handle. Wow, why haven't all the other manufacturers done this, instead of relying on that annoying separate spiral spring that is so easy to drop when assembling the latch to the door?? [I have to admit, at first I thought this was just missing the part, but instead it's been replaced by something actually attached to the handle.] For that alone, plus the low-low price of this Amazon add-on item, I give this 5 stars. If you are comfortable with a screwdriver, you will have no trouble getting this installed.

Solid quality replacement for our storm door. The matte black finish looks modern and it feels sturdy when opening and closing. Easy install with basic tools.

It says it works with a 1.25” this door, however, the longest screw sent is 1.25” and you need 1.5” to connect the two pieces together. I had to use the screws from the old handle which were white and I got the black handle so now it looks weird but we are replacing the whole door later in the year so for now it works. The strike plate also didn’t work well and wouldn’t latch on properly so I reinstalled our old one and that works much better. I was able to install it myself and my only frustration was how hard it is to hold all the pieces together since they don’t really securely fit into one another. Can’t tell you how many times I dropped a piece and would get frustrated. Being a woman, my hands are smaller but I took on this project to repair a broken handle. Compared to the original handle on my door, this is definitely cheaply made. I bought it because it was an inexpensive option for a temporary solution. Hoping it holds up until we finish our deck rebuild and get a new door.

Really like these handles. I appreciate the upgraded design. The only thing I did not like was that you had to break internal piece of metal to fit the size in depth of your door because it was not easy. Even with a pliers, it was difficult.

I was happy to see that this design still existed as it replaced the old one which was about 20 years old or so. (The outside handle with the button was a bit different, but the important mechanisms and inside handle were the same.) I didn't even have to change the strike plates, as they matched perfectly. The instructions could have provided more information about how long to leave the metal bar. I erred on the side of leaving it one section too long initially. Unfortunately, that didn't leave me with much to grip onto with pliers to break off the additional section I needed and ended up having to use a metal saw blade to cut it. Other than that glitch, the installation was fairly easy.

Very easy to install. Has been working flawlessly all summer :)
