Why is pineapple lumps described as australian candy when it comes from new zealand?

As a New Zealander living in the US I must admit this is a mystery to me. But like pavlova, flat whites etc the Aussies seem to think they can take credit for kiwi favorites. We all know such a wonderful treat like pineapple lumps could not possibly be from oz
