Upgrading from a 520+, there is a massive difference screen resolution is much better and larger. So easy to set up just bluetooth to the phone and all data from your accessories ported straight over, everything worked however it picked up the radar but not the light but was simple to correct. You get the usual low quality Garmin (rubber band) mount, I prefer to buy a third party version. The maps are really impressive with plenty of detail I really liked the warnings for dangerous roads etc whilst riding, battery life is brilliant and I found the accessories connected far quicker than my old 520+. I did have an issue fitting this onto my existing bike mounts as it is quite large and it fowled on stem bolts and lights I had, so I ended up spending more money on mounting options. I did like the idea of a bike alarm built in which is great leaving it out of sight at cafe stops, the only disappointment was only three profiles. Although you can rename them the one that is 'indoor' has limited functionality it will not record any elevation only speed and distance as it's to be used on a trainer, so it only has two! Pro's 1. I'm a dinosaur! I never wanted any of this electronic stuff distracting me from enjoying a ride. I'm now fully converted. Bought this for a trip to France so we could go off exploring on the bikes. I was able to pre plan routes through garmin connect and had no worries about getting lost. GPS is accurate. Very tough quality build. The maps look a little basic but very usable and probably for the best when you're looking down on the move. Couple of annoying niggles but I'm sure that is more from me needing to learn the settings more. I love how simple it is. I didn't want something that even told me the gas pressure in my bowels. Just a sat nav, for my bike. That's all I wanted,and that is what this is. Battery life is great, IF you aren't on full brightness. The attachment isn't that great, I bought an out front one off temu and it's rock solid. Overall it's brilliant and great value.

Ideal while navigating out on the road, especially for longer journeys while cycling. I primarily purchased this for the long battery life, in comparison to my phone. I had to purchase an adaptor for my quadlock set up but AI helped me find a cheaper version that was very suitable. I am able to upload maps via GPX from other apps. An expensive purchase, but it meets my requirements. I also like the fact that it alerts you when you are about to turn or approach the end of a road, or some challenges are ahead, like letting you know when there are hazards around you. It's a lot better than I was expecting, more advanced than I expected. I am still learning about the product. But so far, I am really impressed with this product.

I bought this for long distance bicycle tours, I don't need all the athletic performance stuff. I feel that Garmin's designers are all young dudes obsessed with sport training and no idea about other kinds of cycling. THis is possibly the best touring GPS device but it's well short of ideal. I used to use a Garmin eTrex hiking computer which was pretty good, but this has a much clearer display. It's annoying on a long tour that it has a built in rechargeable battery as the eTrex used AAs which are so much more pracical on the road. I really like the way I can export routes direct from Ride With GPS to the device via my phone. You can customise it so you have a map/route display and a computer display and can swipe easily between the two (once you've got rid of the endless techy fitness displays) Annoying things include: 1. The climb displays just don't reflect the actual gradients you encounter, so they are pointless. 2. The device is too eager to re-route me when I've chosen my route with care and really want to be in control of my journey, not have some stupid American robot make my decisions. You can turn this off but it's easy to forget to do it. 3. The interface is a mess, it's a complex device and a lot of the complexity is stuff I don't want, but when there is something I want to change or set up and I have previously seen that setting screen, it's often impossible to find my way back to it. There's a weird kind of context-sensitive thing that means something that might be visible in one situation disappears in another, it just needs a more straightforward menu system. 4. It's definitely not a touring device even though it's promoted as such. It would be great to have a tour mode with only those features that you would want when navigating a long tour. 5. There's a REALLY weird thing that when you stop the display changes to show a huge 'Pause' symbol obscuring the map display. (Hey Garmin I know that I've stopped, I don't need you shouting at me about it). Then when you start it obscures the display again with a big 'Play' symbol for several seconds. This is just at the moment you may need to see the map and your route ahead very clearly, maybe at a complex road junction. 6. Finally it's always extremely unclear whether you are actually 'navigating' the route you have set. I'm never sure and I've often found that the computer is not actually recording the trip data, presumably I've not pressed the right button. Because you don't know what's going on you may actually stop navigation when you mean to start it.

If you just want a GPS device for your bike without all the nonsense and the ridiculous price, this is great. You can connect heart rate & cadence sensors if you wish, but it doesn’t give all the training data that the high end devices do. However the mapping and data logging is pretty much identical to the higher end devices. You can add or take away data screens and customize them to show exactly what you need/want to see and the mapping is the usual Garmin quality. Battery life is good, but not exceptional, the UI easy to use and it connects to your phone via the Garmin connect app so all your stats are displayed for post ride analysis. Does navigation, data logging and basic sensor connectivity for 25% of the price of top end Garmin units.

If you are looking at Garmin bike units there are plenty of them, and the newest ones have all kinds of features, but they cost (the Garmin 1050 is going to take you up to £600). So what does the Edge Explore 2 offer? For less than £200 you get a clear and bright colour touch screen, and if your main interest is logging your ride, having a map if you want it and adding a route from Komoot or elsewhere, along with all the regular information (Average speed, elevation, etc etc) this is the one for you. I replaced my Garmin Edge 520 and was really glad to do so: the Edge 520 had endless button combinations and a smaller screen. The touch screen is a dream compared to that, and a USB-C port as well.

The first garmin owned and not disappointed. It's very informative and great fir my cycling rides.

I purchase a Garmin Edge Explore 2 three years ago and it was great. Recently I started using it again so checked for updates. After the update the unit was stuck in a boot loop so had to reset it to factory settings. Set it up again and it fires up ok, and last about 2 minutes before a notice comes up about sending diagnostics then reboots. I gave up with that unit so on the 22nd June 2026 I purchased a new one. I set the unit up to suit my rides but have not installed anything on the unit like courses or rides. Everything was working great. I connected it to the Garmin Express on the laptop and it said finishing off setup, which took 30 seconds. It said that there was map updates which would be impossible to install as even the smallest map update was bigger in size than the internal memory card and you cant add an external one. It makes no sense to me. I ejected the unit using the symbol on the unit and it went to restart. The restart screen as you can see in the picture says Loading Courses and Locations and it's been like that since. Yep, it's locked up. Now I have totally lost confidence in these Garmin products and will be returning this until for a refund. My original unit will have to go in the trash so I'll lose £200 on that one. I'll research other brands and give one of them a try. Very sad as when my unit used to work it was great but something has happened since in a negative way. Do your research guys, many people are having the same problems with these.

Funktioniert wie beschrieben. Was fehlt ist die automatische Helligkeitsanpassung. Das Rückführen auf die geplante Tour dauert sehr lang. Andere Geräte machen das schneller. Ansonsten bin ich damit sehr zufrieden.

For commuting and touring, this is perfect. Additional maps are free to download if you need them. Use this with speed, cadence, heart rate and radar sensors (bought separately) and all work well. Easily swaps between bikes. Don't have any sensors on my tandem, but it reads speed from GPS so don't miss anything. No training tips, except for recovery period if you use a heart rate sensor, but if you are into hard core training you probably want one of Garmin's more expensive offerings.
