The pages won't tear, as they're made of synthetic material. I tried both a pencil and a ball point pen underwater, and on dry pages, and both wrote equally in both instances. (I used different types of lead, both worked equally well). You can use an eraser on the pencil, but a little still remained readable. There is also a page for your training records, to record 9 types of training (level, date, agency, instructor), and a page for your personal information if you were to lose it, and record emergency medical information. It's a great dive book! **Q: How many dives can you log in this book ?** A: There are 53 pages for recording dives, plus a few special pages at the beginning and end for noting training dives. There are fewer data items than the standard PADI dive log, but a lot of the PADI details are unnecessary, IMO (fresh vs salt water, etc). My wife used it on our trip last week to Little Cayman and said she prefers the PADI log. We download our dive info from our dive computers anyway so it doesn't make any difference to me. **Q: so u are saying that this book is about the size of a index card right** A: It is slightly larger then the size of the index card **Q: what size dry bag could this be use with** A: Hi Susan, The dimensions of this are 5.9 x 3.6 x .5 inches.
