Does this unit come with battery and charger

Yes it comes with both. I am very pleased with it. Was able to trim hedges without a ladder. Weed whacked doubles as an edger and the pole saw helped me trim branches easily.

How reliable is this product?

Not very reliable. The grass trimmer/edger stopped working within the first year. The spool would just fly out. And now after 2 years of light use, the battery won't charge anymore.
