Air Conditioning Sensor Doesn't Work
Given its MSRP I expected this device to work much better. The App has quite a few oddities that make navigation of the menu system overly complicated. Second, starting the generator usually resets the device so that it takes a second crank attempt to get the genset to turn over. Finally, and what may be fatal to its continued use, the interior temperature sensor won't maintain contact. It wouldn't be so bad if the firmware would (a) log the thermostat drop out and (b) auto revert to temperature mode from a transient communication failure. But this is a complete failure in reliability and any assurance I have in this device is rather limited. The base station is literally 5 feet from the sensor and it has yet to stay connected for 2 days. Notes from the battlefield. (1) Not labeled in the instructions is a plastic battery cover to remove from the thermostat prior to installation. The pull tab was folded under and clear and three inspections failed to locate it. I only discovered it after disassembly of the battery holder which was required to replace the battery, which is a negative in and of itself. (2) Replacement of thermostat battery requires screw disassembly from PCB yet assembly fails to prevent battery from becoming dislodged and shorting while assembled. (-1 star) (3) The batter at some point was jostled and developed a direct short inside the thermostat (4) The battery is a CR2450 (-? star) (5) Pigtail is short and has a serial pair (cable 6 and 7) preventing easy installation in other locations where though more difficult to install may have a better connection to the thermostat. (6) The first crank always fails due to power draw from the starter. It needs better power regulation. It has always succeeded on the second crank. For my power fail test it waited for one minute before attempting the second crank, which so far has succeeded on every test. (7) The thermostat power on is +1 degree from set point, power off is the same +1 from set point. I would prefer a larger delta T or the ability to set directly the start temp and stop temp. (8) Why is there not yet a power sensor. This is trivial. The generator does not need to start with power already supplied, nevermind the synergy that could be gotten by providing a plug powered temperature sensor over one that is battery even if it was USB plug powered. (9) Temperature sensor frequently drops even though with the router directly below the thermostats location in the cab. This is about as bad a design failure as could exist and costs it all but the last two stars. (-3 stars) (10) The inability of the device to recover from short temperature sensor drops, and its inability to log those drops and reconnects despite having a logging function for genset errors built in costs this any other stars and would earn it a trip back to amazon had I bought it from Amazon and not direct from the manufacturer. (-2 stars) (11) Both the app and the firmware could use updates that could easily make this a 4-star device **AS-IS** which is absolutely appalling that it has not been fixed given it has been out for several years now and from such a reputable company.
