We vote, we pay taxes, we share, we care. But when it comes to replacing filters we confess that we are guilty of benign neglect. It doesn't matter what filter we're talking about. HEPA filters? Pfft! Furnace filters? Touchy subject - don't go there. But when the dry winter months plopped their miserable carcasses on us once again this year we somehow sensed it might be time to replace our humidifier before we cranked it up again. Maybe it was because we've never replaced it and can't remember whether we purchased the humidifier before or after the advent of the microwave oven. Of course, I figured maybe we could avoid replacing it by soaking the original filter in a bit of vinegar or something. So I lifted the old filter out to see what needed to be done. Horror show. The center of the filter was woven full of compacted dog hair and vicious dust bunnies. The filter itself had turned into a calcium brick. I reluctantly pronounced it beyond salvation, we observed a moment of silence, consigned it to the trash and began the search for a replacement.The search for replacements for anything online is never easy. We can seldom find things specifically listed for the model number of the doohickey we have - if we are able to find the model number in the first place. But this one did seem to match ours and the picture on the web page did resemble what ours must have looked like long, long ago before we began our years of silent inattention. So we crossed our fingers and ordered it.To our delight and surprise it actually fits our Sunbeam SCM3755C perfectly! Others have noted it is difficult to install. Rookies. True, it does not plop blithely into place. You have to futz with it a bit to coax the top edge into the plastic piece that is responsible for maintaining its form. But it isn't a labor of Hercules for crying out loud. Took maybe a minute.Our humidifier is now up and running for another too long, dry winter and we're simply grateful that we did not have to wind up shelling out much more money to replace the whole thing. Besides, the whole process provided the opportunity to give the rest of the appliance a bit of a cleaning as well. A success story all around. Good value. *by B***T on February 27, 2011* I bought these after looking all over replacement filters for my humidifier. I wanted the name brand, original equipment, not some cheap knockoff. These looked cheap when they arrived, did not look like the original filters, were not I boxes, and did not have the Microban treatment - just plain, beige filters in plastic. I wasn't expecting much. - I figured they either would not wick the water efficiently, or they would need replacing fairly often.After using the first filter three weeks now, I'm happy to report I was wrong. The filters work fine, and are lighter and easier to handle than the old ones. They are a good value and I would buy them again.A couple of things I would suggest to get the best use:- Use a humidifier bacteriostat treatment to keep the water and filter from getting dirty, moldy or smelly. You can get a 32-ounce bottle pretty cheap and it's worth it.- Flip the filter over when you refill the tank; helps the filter wear more evenly and keeps it from drying out so fast.- Clean and sanitize the humidifier base monthly, more if it needs it.
