Great translation. Wonderful play.

A little rough
Translation a little too "updated". Loses some of its power. I am completing the word requirement with this sentence. Silly.

To Star or Not to Star; that is the Question!
Pros: It is wonderful having a reproduction of the Samuel French edition of Jean Anouilh's interpretation of Sophocles' tragedy (translated from the French by Galantiere). The speeches of The Chorus provide an incredible insight to the role of the chorus: to introduce and comment on the characters; to act as their collective conscience; and to comment on the nature of tragedy itself, and how it differs from melodrama. Cons: The text of the play—at least in the edition I received, which has a shiny grey cover, instead of the green pictured—seems to have been photocopied; the lines—particularly those of the 1st long speech of the Chorus—are cramped together with no spaces, and are difficult to read. Some of the letters are even partially obliterated. To appreciate the power of Anouilh's interpretation, I recommend watching the DVD of the film with Geneviève Bujold.
