Are these waterproof ?

These shoes are not waterproof. If you want waterproof shoes it would be best to buy the variant of these shoes that are supposed to be waterproof, i e. the "Moab 3 GTX" (GTX = Gortex). I bought these shoes for Summer use & chose the non Gortex version on purpose. I own other walking boots that have a waterproof Gortex membrane & they make my feet very hot. Personally, I would rather just avoid a soaking, by walking around any deep puddles etc, than have to endure uncomfortably hot feet the whole time I am wearing the shoes.

If purchasing a pair of these shoes from the UK - as they seemingly despatch from the USA - would I then be liable for any additional VAT/tax/duty?

I am sure but would think not as you bought in the uk and not in the USA. To get tax you need to get that at the departure airport. But I could be wrong
