I did not feel that there was any loss of heat with the transfer of voltage. **Q: What is the length of the barrel (just the part that heats up)?** A: I believe 4 inches. I have very very long hair and can curl without issue. **Q: Does it have a cool tip** A: Yes **Q: Who makes a 1/2 inch curling iron that is good for thin hair?** A: In my experience, thin hair does not hold a curl after a few minutes at best. So, a smaller curling iron makes tighter curls that therefore last longer while dropping out just enough to look more relaxed.
