Durable, practical mechanical pencil workhorse
Have owned a number of these over the years. Great quality, durable, nice looking and like the safety feature of retractable lead tip. They come in variety of (lead) widths but prefer the bigger .9 mm as I enjoy the writing experience of softer, darker more breakable leads. Highly recommend.

Best Mechanical Pencil . . . Ever
OK, I'm a mechanical pencil nerd . . . That being said, this is the best mechanical pencil I've ever owned. I actually researched various ones and this one always seems to come out on top. I now know why. It works flawlessly, has a decent weight and feel (it's actually metal, not plastic), and the point retracts back into pencil when you press the clip so no more getting poked through your pocket. Seems really durable even with heavy use and, while more expensive then the cheapos you can get at the local retailer, you actually do get more for the money. Only disappointment is the replacement erasers made by Pentel are half the size of the ones that come with the pencil.

Comfortable Pencil
The pencil has a good weight to it but isn’t super heavy. Feels very sturdy and high quality. I love writing with it and the grip is not as abrasive as other pencils.

Fantastic, if you've never had one, get one.
How did I get along without this? Excellent and performs flawlessly, pencil tip retration allows for 1 handed operation

Mechanical drafting pencil my wife uses daily
Excellent, my wife is very happy with it. Priced right so I purchased a few for her and extra lead.

Great pencil with a minor flaw
This pencil is great. It's reliable, has a good weight to it, and it's perfectly comfortable and grippy in the hand. I have owned 2 of these over the last 4 years, after upgrading from a graphgear 500, and have enjoyed nearly every minute writing with them. Unfortunately, after about a year and a half or two, the central yellow plastic piece (0.9mm version) breaks. This has happened with both pencils I've owned. Each time, its broken around the threads (see picture), and because this plastic piece holds the rest of the pencil together, it basically renders the pencil useless after it breaks. I've never been overly rough with the pencil, and only take it apart maybe twice a year, so I think this piece just gets old and brittle after a while. That being said, 2 years is a pretty long time for a mechanical pencil to last. The rest of this pencil has basically no chance of breaking with normal use. If it wasn't for the plastic piece giving out, I'd probably still be on my first one. And yes, the proprietary eraser refills are a bit annoying, but they're pretty cheap and unusually last quite a while despite their small size. I can definitely still recommend this pencil to anyone looking for that "premium" experience.

The retractable tip is a game changer!
I have used many drafting pencils (Rotring, other Pentels), but the GraphGear 1000 is my favorite for carrying around. The standout feature is the dual-action retractor—when you clip it to your pocket or notebook, the tip automatically retracts. No more stabbing myself or bending the fragile metal sleeve! The grip is unique a mix of knurled metal and rubber ovals. It gives you the precision of a metal grip without it being too harsh on your fingers during long writing sessions. It feels premium, heavy, and well-balanced. Highly recommended for students or architects who need a durable daily driver. Pros: • Retractable tip protects the lead and your pockets. • Grip is comfortable (metal + rubber). • Solid spring-loaded clip. Cons: • Slightly top-heavy compared to the GraphGear 500. 100% get what you pay for, totally worth it Size is perfect, easy to grasp Write speed is another level ✨✨✨

Well made pencil, but be sure to refill with strong lead
I love these pencils. The metal body gives it a decent weight for more control, although it might feel a little "top-heavy" depending on your drawing style. I personally use them for technical drawing, with the pencil perpendicular to the page, so the balance isn't as much of an issue. I love the fact that they're retractable, as I don't know how many pencil tips I've bent over the years being fumble-fingered. When retracted, the metal shroud around the tip keeps it protected from bumps in all directions. When extended, the tips have a nice length, allowing them to get the point very close to the edge of a ruler while keeping the pencil perpendicular to the page. The one downside to this 0.3mm pencil is not actually the pencil's fault. 0.3mm leads break very easily. When I first got it, sometimes the leads wouldn't advance and I discovered that the lead had broken off inside the tip. Thankfully, the pencil comes with a small 0.3mm pin stuck into the inside of the eraser, which allowed me to pop the broken lead back into the pencil and remove it. I've come up with two possible causes for the breakage. One is that the pencil was bumped from the side with enough force to snap the lead somewhere in the middle. I don't expect it would take a lot of force for this to happen. The other possibility is that the lead snapped during retraction. The pencil retracts with a good amount of force, and the resulting shock/vibration might have broken the lead. This was easily solved with better lead though. I got rid of the lead that came in the pencil, and replaced it with some Pentel Ain Stein lead. I suspect that other reinforced leads such as Uni NanoDia would work as well. After replacing the lead, the breakage issue stopped completely. I'm extremely happy with these pencils and highly recommend them.

Excellent pencil
Excellent pencil! Robust! I love it's weight that makes it sit comfortable in my hand! Equipped with a clever mechanism to protect the nib and the lead. I started with 0.3 and I have now the 0.9, the 0.5, and got even this 0.7

The best mechanical pencil you are likely to come across
In short: Fulfils all criteria to guarantee an excellent product experience. Looks: I have lost track of how many years I have had mine (best part of a decade now). They still look the business and are often asked about by my clients whilst I am using them. One was even stolen, so I suppose that makes them quite desirable. Construction: The retractable tip is just perfect. It has a slight springiness to it that not only cushions the writing/drawing experience, but also helps avoid lead breakages, although the modern hi-poly' refills are pretty good in their own right. Made principally of plastic and aluminium, it is light yet very robust. The combination of a knurled section and rubber grip is perfect - no readjustment or sweaty finger problems. There are no fancy gears that turn the lead around (as advertised by other products) neither have I ever thought to myself that I need one of those - one less unnecessary mechanism that can go wrong = minimalism = long-lasting = happy owner. Use: Always works well, very easy to carry around (very light). Solid enough construction to withstand severe punishment - mine has been submerged in water for ~3 days (flood while I was away) & dropped from a height of over 10m (~30ft) - accidentally dropped in the space between staircase - which obliterated the lead refills inside but the pen works just fine. If it was the cheaper plastics varieties of mechanical pencils then they would not have survived. I'm also sure that some of the more expensive varieties will not be able to boast this. Even if it did stop working, replacing them is not going to be too painful. As testament to how well these have worked, I now have 3 varieties of these that take different refill sizes, as well as a spare 0.5mm as my all-rounder when I have to jot down or explain anything on the go. The oldest one is pushing a decade in age and looks/works like new. [For the astute fans out there: yes, they did make minor changes in their construction over the years, but not to any detriment] Conclusion: I have never been let down, only pleasantly surprised. I would highly recommend this over any other product I have tried (including comparisons against other brands that are >4x more expensive). A fantastic product that offers excellent value and many years of great service. This product has never disappointed me and I'm certain that most will agree once they have had the pleasure of using it.
