I would love to see a potential sequel!

good read-aloud
I read this story to my 7 & 10 year old at bed time. We loved Holes and wanted to try another book by Louis Sachar. This book kept their interest and had a few laughs, but not as many as Holes. A bit slow in the beginning, but we enjoyed it!

Amazing story
I loved the courage Tamaya showed in the story and the development of the character. It's a great story with two plots that collide at some point and develop into a happy ending.

Great story for Middle School
I use this book for my seventh grade class. It’s interesting and the characters are well thought out. It is easy to annotate for literary elements of character change, conflict, bullying, and has a good dose of corporate greed and irresponsibility. It’s a good read, and I definitely recommend it.

I loved this book
Review from a 10-year-old girl: I loved this book! A girl called Tamaya and his walk-home buddy, Marshall, go in the woods one day to avoid the school bully, Chad. In the forest, they encounter the odd-looking fuzzy mud. I loved how there were little additions in the book that helped tell the story. For example, there were secret senate interviews and random powers of two. Throughout the book, each of those add-ons would piece together. The book was also very suspenseful and action-packed; the type of novel I really like. I would recommend this book to people of all ages who are interested in science and are looking for a good book to read.

Very exciting, intense story
Great Reading Program book. Our kids 11, 14 & 16 all found this book hard to put down. It would have been a little too much for the younger ones, because the kids in the story are worried or afraid most of the time. Spoiler: The fuzzy mud is dangerous and makes some of the kids ill. There’s a bully and there are acts of courage and sacrifice.

Great book for upper elementary, junior high. Use for math/science discussion.
From a teacher's point of view... What an awesome book. My students love Louis Sachar, Holes has to be one of their favorite books ever. I read this book and I know it is another great one to share with my students. The book is definitely a little darker and stranger than Holes, and even though it is not as long as I thought, only upper elementary and junior high would really "get" this book. The book is a perfect starting point for a discussion and activities dealing with science and math. Overall, a great read. Wish it had been a little longer. I highly recommend this book.

Not as intricate or fun as "Holes" but another enjoyable read from Louis Sachar!

This book was another great novel by Louise Sachar, his writing talents are outstanding. I loved this book so much. I do not think it would be good for kids under 10. For one it is possibly a more advanced read, and for two it is possibly a little scary to some. I did not find it scary (And I tend to be more of a wimp). I think it is also very good for this time, in the story they are under quarantine and they finally find a cure. I like to think that will happen in real life too, we will find a cure. I would defiantly recommend this book. It was fun and encouraging, It has so many good lessons in it its hard to count. one of my favorite books for sure. You should read it!
