We’re on a mission from God. Well, this is actually a quote from the fabulous Blues Brothers and not from the congenial Joshua Medcalf. In his book Chop Wood Carry Water he is not talking about God but he does promote the idea of finding OUR personal mission in life. Because being on my very own mission gives my life meaning, strengthens my grit and “only the person in the mirror can stop you from living that out.” Regardless who I am and what my personal situation is, life is a “journey to falling in love with the process of becoming great.” “My value comes from who I am, not from what I do. Then, follow that with a growth mindset statement. Anything that happens to me today is in my best interest and it’s an opportunity to learn and grow.” Often we get stopped in life by discouragement. But we can actually do something to cope with it. “It can come in many different forms; sometimes it is the voice inside your head that says you aren’t good enough, while other times it might come from giving your best and still not succeeding. Still other times it will creep in in ways you might not even be aware of. But make sure you always keep your guard up, and fuel your heart with encouragement.” To chop wood and carry water is an analogy about the deep sense of doing our daily hardworking with confidence and humility. “For many years it might feel as if nothing is happening, but you must trust the process and continue to chop wood and carry water, day in day out, regardless of what is happening around you. There will be distractions.” Watch your thoughts, think about your goals, find your mission and care only about controllables – chop wood and carry water. Don’t compare yourself and your life with others. “My value comes from who I am, not from what I do. Then, follow that with a growth mindset statement. Anything that happens to me today is in my best interest and it’s an opportunity to learn and grow.” And stay present, keep your mind clear and focus on your process. “There is no such thing as pressure in the present moment” In the end of the day each of us are building our own house in life, it is very simply only about yourself and your development in life. “Sometimes you might think you are building for your school, your family, your company, or your team, but you are always building your own house …Dream BIG. Start small. Be ridiculously faithful.” Go ahead. Never give up. It’s your story. “Real will is magic, is omnipotence.” Robert Hamerling

Lots of great life lessons that are not new but told in a memorable story-telling style that will make it easy to remember (the Jon Blanchard style of ‘parables’.)
