A gentle story that teaches how small acts of kindness can help children feel included and allow them to flourish, from esteemed author and speaker Trudy Ludwig and acclaimed illustrator Patrice Barton. A simple act of kindness can transform an invisible boy into a friend... Meet Brian, the invisible boy. Nobody in class ever seems to notice him or think to include him in their group, game, or birthday party . . . until, that is, a new kid comes to class. When Justin, the new boy, arrives, Brian is the first to make him feel welcome. And when Brian and Justin team up to work on a class project together, Brian finds a way to shine. Any parent, teacher, or counselor looking for material that sensitively addresses the needs of quieter children will find The Invisible Boy a valuable and important resource. Includes a discussion guide and resources for further reading. Review: Such a GOOD book! - I ordered this book for a class I was going to teach on putting yourself in other's shoes and being kind and the kid's absolutely loved it! Such a good book Review: Meaningful for everyone and a valuable resource for teachers. - You can listen to the story on You Tube if you need convincing that this is a fabulous story, offering lots of opportunities for both social/emotional development and reading strategies. There are opportunities to predict, infer, synthesize, summarize and make connections. Even though I SWORE that I would no longer buy any children's books upon retirement from the classroom, I purchased this one to use as a demonstration of an interactive read aloud for my college students. Highly, highly recommend.

wonderful story for grades K-4
I love this book. I hope it gets to be a classic one of these days. It's all about a quiet little boy who is ignored by his classmates and even his teacher. The creative use of color by the illustrator as the story goes on lends this book to great discussions about reality vs. fantasy--"Is the little boy really invisible?" what it means to be invisible and how we treat each other. Every time I read it to classrooms in K-4, I get quite the emotional responses from kids, and they are captivated by this story. It's beautifully written and illustrated. (Retired special ed teacher)

Great for encouraging inclusion!
My 4 year olds preschool class kept leaving certain friends out when they played. We read this book and it helped him to imagine when that happens it makes the other friend feel “invisible” like in the book! Highly recommend. It is great for ages 4-10! I enjoyed it too!

Such a sweet story with an important message
This story is almost heartbreaking in it's realistic portrayal of a small boy whom nobody sees. As a young child, I often tried to make myself invisible, but it was always so nice when someone actually noticed me in a kind way. My 5-yr old loves how the color of the illustrations goes from black and white to color as the boy makes a friend and you're definitely rooting for this kid the whole time. Very sweet and well-written/illustrated. I highly recommend!

A Teacher's Honest Review
This book benefits all types of students. New incoming students to a classroom, shy students in general, outgoing/louder students, etc. It teaches the importance of inclusion in a way that a child can relate to and understand. The illustrations are beautiful and the storyline is easy to follow. The reviews were spot on, it's a great book. Whether you are having issues with student behavior or not, it can help build a level of understanding and respect for other kids. Always a great thing to review, because working with other people is a skill that is necessary throughout everyone's entire lives! Glad to add this to my classroom library!
