I enjoyed Alice In Chains for years and really miss MTVās āGolden Eraā with programs like āUnpluggedā. I loved Unplugged because there were nuances in the music disguised by studio engineering and this album did not disappoint me at all. A beautiful record, in every way.
Blown away with this MoV release. I am someone who doesnāt mind paying extra to get the record I really want. I do my research, try and find information about which press sounds as close to the original as possible, and go from there. So when I read the best press of AiC Unplugged was a $30 MoV release, I was hesitant. In my experience, Iāve had MoV releases that are not that great and sound flat, and then there are the gems like this one. This copy of Unplugged sounds as good as my 2009 Bernie Grundman master of Nirvana Unplugged, and thatās one of the best live records Iāve ever heard pressed. MoV claims this press was cut with the āoriginal masters.ā A bit vague of a statement, but you can tell this is one they really tried to get close to the original source material and make a beautiful record. Full, warm, haunting sound. As close to being in the room with those guys as we will ever get. If you are a fan of AiC, Unplugged, or just iconic records that are pressed extremely well, donāt sleep on this one. The ONLY fault I can find, and thatās really hunting for one, is like others have pointed out skimping on the packaging. For something so well done I would love to see it in a gatefold. Other than that, 5/5 stars for sure. RIP Layne.
