The meter indicates the moisture content of your compost pile or soil sample by means of a sensor at the bottom of the probe. The probe is sensitive only at the tip. Calibrate the instrument by inserting the tip into an ideal sample of compost or soil and adjusting the needle to on the 0 to 10 scale. I found it Very useful in recording my lawn moisture content over a wide area.
