The Final Cut

Love this CD
This is the CD I have chosen for my end of life gathering (Wake) . With the pandemic sweeping across the USA, my husband and I decided to have our plans in place. I have loved Pink Floyd for years, but haven't been listening to much music lately. My husband purchased this CD as a gift for me, not knowing I had ordered it years before. but I kept this CD and now have a back up for when it is needed. I love it !.

Great album degraded by remastering
This will always be my favorite Floyd album and the other favorable reviews here sum up what is so wonderful about it so I won't repeat what has already been said. The four instead of five stars is because the 2011 remastered version is a prime example of what is wrong with most of the recent remastered CD's out there. The only real difference between it and the original is that they compressed (actually brick wall limited) the mix. This makes the overall album louder at the expense of getting rid of most of the dynamic range of the original recording. There are multiple songs on the album that have quiet parts that are followed by loud parts (the title track being one of the best examples) and this effect is mostly lossed with the remastered release. To see this visually, open a track with an audio editor (like Audacity) from the original release and then open the same track from the remastered version. The difference is very obvious.

It is definately one of their best!
This is the third time I bought this album, first on LP, second on cassette, and now MP3, and I will probably buy the CD too. This album has no problem standing along side the big 4 that preceded it.It's a continuation of the wall, with a little more serious, and less commercial approach in my opinion. I started to put my favorite songs, but quickly realized I would be putting them all in here. As someone else mentioned, it's extremely well written, and to me a masterpiece. Headphones are a must, your listening to a story (and Roger is telling it), and there is much to hear.

There's a kid who had a big imagination....and let's his sentences overrun.
Probably one of the saddest albums ever put to wax. The album is a set of songs about WWII and Roger Waters coming to grips with the reality of his father's death in the "War to end all Wars". Very few artists wear their hearts on their sleeves as Waters does. Final Cut is really the aftermath of the Wall. The Wall was Waters/Gilmour examination of the mentality and social structures that cause everything from juvenile delinquency to self loathing. The Wall started began as an attempt by Rogers to talk about his father's death but the life craziness he endured before understanding his father's demise, became the basis for the Wall. The Final Cut is actually an extension of the Wall in my opinion. Two LP's were almost too much for the label to handle, let alone three. The Wall was panned by Robert Hillburn of the L.A. Times, "Too Dark and Foreboding.. Too Personal". I never read any of his reviews of The Final Cut. This album does not pass the "play in the car" test. If you can slam it in the CD and play it on the 405 at rush hour, you have a hit on your hands. Final Cut is much too intricate with regard to frequencies to ever be considered for a Sunday drive. If you understand the politics and evil that caused WWII and enjoy unsettling glimpses into realms of sadness, this is your album.A First Class Album."For the insensitive, life is a Comedy, for the caring... a tragedy"

The fact that in included "When the tigers broke free" was an amazing and awesome rarity
I have this on vinyl but wanted to listen to it in the car, and didn't want to deal with CDs, so I got the MP3, The fact that in included "When the tigers broke free" was an amazing and awesome rarity.I loved the album, it is fun and weird in the ole' "Roger Waters reminisces about growing up during the great war 2 and writing about it again" sort of way, some tracks are suddenly loud and ass-tightening if you are not ready for it, but all in all the story line is cool, somber, and sort of depressing in that "well that s*** happened" sort of way. Something to toss on in the background, have a good smoke and drink at a bar in a dimly lit basement alone or veg out on a bean bag high as a kite to.

you'll probably love this one
This is in my top 5 of Floyd albums. If you are a fan of The Wall, you'll probably love this one.

The last Pink Floyd album
The last album before the departure of Roger Waters, The Final Cut is a moving, emotional roller coaster of war based music. Several cuts like "Not now John" and "When the Tigers Broke Free" will stay with a true Floyd fan. Arguably their most depressing album, it is filled with great music.

Striking and Powerful
Roger Waters is one of the best political poets of the modern era. This album has been criticized, slandered and written off by many Pink Floyd fans. Some may call it too political. But that begs the question, Had Pink Floyd not been overtly political, since Dark Side of The Moon? When Roger Waters wrote Welcome to the Machine or Have a Cigar, he wasnt just attacking a record label, but rather attacking the whole capitalist industry that had taken over music. So when Roger Waters attacked the invasion of the Falklands, why had it suddenly gone too far?. This album is a reminder of what Pink Floyd were always about and also a powerful reminder that those who died for us in the Second World War didn't die so we could support imperialist interests in an empire, they died for our right to deny that very thing from happening. Powerful words, Powerful music, Stunning artwork and one of their best

An Unfairly Underrated Masterpiece.
I read all the negative reviews of this album when it came out. I had all sorts of other music that I was listening to at the time so I avoided it. It took until just a few years ago before I decided to give it a listen and, perhaps, chose the wrong time and the CD went on the shelf. As I was considering getting some Pink Floyd on vinyl I started looking a Amazon reviews of albums that I did not know so well and read Roger Waters’ account of his intentions, which seem entirely understandable. This chimed well with customer reviewer’s very positive responses to this album. When I listened to it again it was like hearing an album that I had never listened to before. This is a thoroughly absorbing and moving album. Sometimes people make far too much of schisms in bands and to take sides; letting our loyalties to one or other party colour perception of the music. This is a first class album and I am one of the few Pink Floyd fans who doesn’t like The Wall so it is not blind loyalty. I know that some say that this is more of a Roger Waters solo project than a genuine Floyd album but whichever way you see it this is either Roger Waters’ greatest solo album or an unfairly underrated and very good Pink Floyd album that should be in the same box as Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here but has for far too long languished in the dark corner along with Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma (which enjoys some affection only due to the Live disc). Go on give it a chance. Remember that artists are not always the best judges of their own art so David Gilmour complaining that songs left over from The Wall weren’t good enough for that album so why should they be good enough for this one can also be interpreted through the lens of his ongoing animosity towards Roger Waters.

A wonderful piece of vinyl
I won't review the music (one of my favourite PF albums, even though you could argue quite strongly that it's actually a Roger Waters album with guests...) but the quality of the vinyl itself, which is excellent. The disc is lovely and silent, with just about no clicks (I'm sensitive to clicks, which often spoil LPs for me), and comes in a high quality vinyl-friendly sleeve. Also there was virtually no static when I lifted the record off my turntable, which probably helped with the quiet-ness of the disc - on both sides.I normally dread buying new vinyl these days, as I've had some poor discs, but this was top-notch.

This is my favourite all time album
This is my favourite all time album. I have been listening to this album since the 1980's. The sound quality is like no other. If you are a Roger Waters fan then you will love this re-mastered CD. Every song is sublime. I never get tired of listening to this album. I just wish there was more.
