I'm planning to certify this summer. This book has been great in teaching the core content for safe diving and I pick it up to read often. The illustrations are high quality and the layout is great, too. Review: Good for a Review - I had about 30 dives under my belt, but none in the last 8 years. This book had the information I needed to become comfortable with safety issues that was my concern.

The best scuba text in the US
I have bee using this book since the 3rd edition and it is still the best text for open water through advanced training courses available in the US. I hope that Dennis Graver passes his legacy on to another person when he decides to hang it up. The book is technically accurate, easy to read and has fantastic pictures and graphics. My only complaint for the 5th edition is that Human Kinetics has put a much lighter weight cover on the book that almost immediately curls up. How much could it cost to use a slightly heavier weight cover material? Then again HK is always about the money.

Uninspired, basic, pedantic
As a relatively experienced (200+ dives) recreational diver, I found this book to be poorly written and basic to a fault. If you're already experienced, you won't find anything new or interesting. If you're a beginner diver, I'd suggest you'd be far better served with the course materials provided by your certifying organization, ie PADI, NAUI, etc.

Random collection of sentences that have no coherence and do not even make sense
The worst scuba diving book I have ever (tried to) read. It is a collection of random sentences put together. The science is inaccurate but still at the end of each paragraph the author is drawing a conclusion based on that science. The conclusions are not dangerous but they are not supported by what he is describing! Unfortunately it is pretty unreadable...

Excellent refresher
Got this book as a refresher for a scuba holiday after not having been underwater for a while. Comprehensive and interesting refresher that encompasses all of PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water, and more. Also a great tool to teach novice divers!

O livro é um manual completo do mergulho, tudo o que você imaginar está ali. Quero tirar o PADI, vai me ajudar muito.
