It is made of polypropylene. Polypropylene is approved by the FDA for food contact. However, not all polypropylene plastics are the same. Some polypropylene plastics contain additives to suit their purpose (certain labware as an example). I trust this polypropylene filter funnel for brewing my own ginger ale. I filter the cloudy brew using this filter funnel just prior to bottling. I wash the funnel thoroughly with dish soap and a brush.
