It has an extension pole and various heads to use. So I'd say it is at least as effective as any other vacuum. **Q: Does this lay flat enough to vacuum under a large bed with just a few inches of clearance?** A: Yes...it's flat enough to do under the bed. It's even flat enough to go under my sectional couch and oversized chair and ottoman. Great vacuum...plenty of power. **Q: What is the horsepower** A: The horsepower is 1.18. HP isn't the only factor though. Design, the motor, and many things come into play. I had the Platinum sh1000 I think it was. It was amazing and not as much power. It had the best bags too, HEPA. I hope they have some for this vacuum. I would recommend it, it has twice the power the Oreck has. **Q: how much the weight of the machine?** A: I can't say for sure, but I am a small woman 76 years old, weigh 105 pounds and I clean upstairs and downstairs carrying this vacum cleaner in a couple hours and it doesn't feel heavy to me, nor do I have any aches and pains from vacuuming. She loves it so much she got a second one to use at home. She also loves that she can buy extra reusable filters and has ones for specific houses/jobs. Not too heavy and the handle has a good weight and feels sturdy. Also has a good reach, long enough to get in tough places. Love the attachments, multifunctional. Great value for what it is. Only improvements I’d suggest are that the shoulder strap could be a little more comfortable and the strap to hold the cord pops off a lot and could be designed better.
