Simple and Wonderful
I've said it about a million times on various reviews I've written. The mark of a real artist, regardless of genre, is the ability for them to try new things, and succeed at them. We knew back in 2008/2009 that there was greatness instilled in Lady Gaga, and throughout the last eight years she has shown to be a phenomenal performer, chameleon, and artist in general with a penchant for showmanship. We've seen her tackle pop, rock, hip hop, jazz, and country and in each case she has seemed perfectly at home. As though it just came naturally to her. So is the same for Joanne, her latest album and reincarnation.Diehard fans of her electropop eras like The Fame Monster, Born This Way, or Artpop will likely be put off by Joanne. There is nothing on here that even hints at the Lady Gaga of those days. With the exception of maybe "Dancing in Circles", there isn't a dance beat to be found anywhere. Joanne has a very heavy country and Americana influence, even while still being a pop record at heart. The album is also a departure for her in terms of songwriting...this is by far the most personal album she's ever released. The simple album cover actually represents the music on this record very well.My favorite tracks are "Diamond Heart", which is the "Marry the Night" of this album for sure...starting on a fierce rock number to introduce the album. The minimalistic and gorgeous "Joanne" is a sweet ode to her aunt, with its hushed guitar, quiet synths, and Gaga singing in a tender, thin voice. It's mesmerizing. "Sinner's Prayer" is country-type banger that I could listen to on repeat. "Just Another Day" from the deluxe edition is reminiscent of Gaga emulating Elton John and it's brilliant. "John Wayne", "A-yo", and the afore-mentioned "Dancing in Circles" are the closest this album has to any additional official singles. This album is clearly going to be divisive. I'm curious to see how it will be received a few years from now, and how it'll fit amongst the rest of her repertoire. Right now though, I haven't stopped listening to Joanne on repeat. It's an album that's truly from the heart, and you can actually hear just how close to her this album is. It's a new level for Gaga, and I'm happy to say she has succeeded admirably!

A performer that keeps reaching new heights
One cannot deny that Lady Gaga has evolved through the years as an artist and performer and her album “Joanne” shows how much she has matured in her style and sound. Every record that she has released has been a step above the last, and after listening to the 14 songs on this record it has that quality. This has to be the most diverse album where she punches out her musical influences from funk, pop, rock, to Broadway to Cabaret – anything goes but all Lady Gaga.Once again, Mark Ronson is at the production controls and adds to this album as he has done on other recordings an “old school” sound of authenticity that is the icing on the cake on this album. In addition to that sentiment, the album's liner notes are indeed another reminder of the back to basics approach in the cover artwork and notes that include the complete lyrics of each song; the sound and the look are reminiscent of the late 1970s and early 1980s -- hopefully, the record will be on vinyl too. The first single “Pefect Illusion” may appear to be a slight diversion to what fans are accustomed to – electronic and full production of studio special effects on most of her songs, however, on this album it is back to the basics on, vocals, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and percussion. But definitely is not missing the dance beat and infectious rhythm and outstanding vocals that are completely displayed. Every song shines and more so a few highlight the album “Million Reasons” – piano, guitar, and vocals, a very hand-jive track “A-Yo”, and folk ballad rendering of “Joanne”, an interesting duet with Florence Welch on “Hey Girl” that also sounds like a cross between “Benny and the Jets” and a Prince song from the early 80s, and the New York-New Jersey vibe on the following songs that sound like Lady Gaga spent time jamming to the Bruce Springsteen or Southside Johnny sound “Come to Mama”.“Joanne” is a highly recommended album for diehard or new fans of Lady Gaga that truly shows a performer that keeps growing in style and performance.

What a Great CD!
I love Lady Gaga. She's interesting, fascinating and amazing. I love it that she's always changing, evolving, trying something new. JOANNE is a different sound for this talented singer, but I love it and I'm not very easy to please. "PERFECT ILLUSION" is one of my favorite songs on this CD. From that first guitar lick, I'm hooked and I can't stop playing the song over and over again yet I love a lot of the songs. I like it that the CD has various music styles and her voice fits them all. "DANCIN' IN CIRCLES" has a reggae feel to it and I love it. I just want to get up and dance the night away to it. "JOHN WAYNE" might seem like an odd title for a song, but I love it and every time I play it, I want to go out and find myself a cowboy. "A-YO" (makes me want to get up and jump around; even grab a guitar and play a few licks), "HEY GIRL" (Lady Gaga and Florence Welch sound so darn good singing together; love this song), "MILLION REASONS" (what a catchy chorus; has a country feel to it), "JOANNE" (makes me think of loved ones I've lost) and "SINNER'S PRAYER" (country sound to it; I like the guitar and background effects) are also good songs. "ANGEL DOWN" and "JOANNE" touch the heart strings since they're about people who died too soon. I don't listen to music critics because what they like, I don't like and what they don't like, I do like. The whole CD honestly makes me feel as though I'm right there in the studio as she's recording the songs. The sound is so clean and perfect and pure. Just listen to the song previews and you'll get a small idea of how good this CD is. I usually only like one or two songs on a CD, but with Lady Gaga, every CD has at least four or more songs that I like and listen to over and over again. I'll admit that ARTPOP has ELEVEN songs that I love and still listen to all the time yet now that I have this JOANNE Deluxe CD, I've put ARTPOP aside and just play this one over and over again.

There's a Hundred Million Reasons to Love This Album
This is a great album. It may not have been what a lot of people were expecting but that's what makes it as good as it is, it is very fresh and again sounds nothing like current mainstream albums. To those concerned it is not a country album, there's a few country influences and it blends well with the other genres. It was believed the album was going to have a strong disco/jazz inspiration but aside from the bonus track on the Deluxe Edition "Just Another Day" it largely does not have jazz any influence. This is Gaga's first time working with Mark Ronson...originally Red One was the executive producer of the album but Ronson took over and 8 songs Red One did with Gaga were tossed...except for one, Angel Down. Strangely enough Red One does not get producing credit even though he and Gaga started and wrote the song together. Ronson came in last minute and helped finish up an already complete song...but whatever the song is still good, I just think credit NEEDS to be given to Red One for Angel Down [not Ronson] it is an amazing song. There are a bunch of great songs, all sounding very different. Perfect Illusion was the lead single from the album but it does not represent the album very well. The song is good but most of the other songs outshine it in a number of ways. Most of the songs were produced by Gaga, Ronson, and Blood Pop.If you are a fan of pop music or just GOOD music that's not just made to twerk to this is the album for you. There is heart and soul with intelligent lyrics...something that is nearly nonexistent in the realm of pop music today. If you are going to buy any pop album, this is the one to purchase.

This dance is on you.
"Joanne" took several listens to grow on me, but I now feel that this album is better than "Artpop" and "Born This Way". Of course, as it stands, "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster" remain Lady Gaga's strongest, most consistent works, and she has yet to top either one. But, "Joanne" goes a long way toward establishing an older, wiser, more mature, Lady Gaga, and one who creates more interesting songs now. You now have "Diamond Heart", "Joanne", "Million Reasons" and "Angel Down"--songs that you really wouldn't find on "The Fame" or "The Fame Monster". These four songs demonstrate, in a good way, an artist transitioning, shedding her old skin for a new one. I could easily listen to these four songs over and over again."A-YO" and "Sinner's Prayer" are interesting upbeat dance numbers that aren't as polished as her earlier dance tracks, and so they have a more organic feel to them. They are warmer, less processed.I really liked "Grigio Girls", one of the three bonus tracks on the deluxe edition. I think it's one of her finest songs, and I'd easily add it to any 'best of' Lady Gaga compilation I'd make for someone. Whereas "Angel Down (Work Tape)" is excess, and I doubt I will be listening to it much. For me, "Hey Girl" featuring Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine is an interesting song for a couple of reasons. The first thing that struck me was it sounded like a song Prince would have done. The second, and I could be wrong about this, are the blatant lesbian themed lyrics, which I don't have problem with, but it's something new for Lady Gaga. And then there are the remaining tracks like "John Wayne", "Perfect Illusion", "Dancin' in Circles", "Just Another Day" and perhaps my least favorite track "Come to Mama".Overall, out of the eleven album tracks, I liked seven of them, plus one bonus track. The rest of the songs were okay, so I'd really have to go with three and a half stars here for "Joanne".What I really want from Lady Gaga is a cohesive, well-produced, rock and roll classic. She has yet to deliver the goods. Look, Madonna's 1989 fourth album, "Like a Prayer" is a classic--every song, with the arguable exception of "Love Song", is individual, yet memorable, and well produced. That's what I'm looking for. I know Lady Gaga can do it. "Joanne" is a step in the right direction, just like "Like a Prayer" was a step in the right direction for Madonna after "Madonna", "Like a Virgin" and "True Blue".Lady Gaga just needs to reel herself in, use some restraint, and pump out a ten or twelve song classic disc where each and every song should be a hit song. You can't tell me that fans don't want to see that. Here's how "Joanne" compares with Lady Gaga's previous works:2008 The Fame: Four Stars2009 The Fame Monster: Four Stars2010 Born This Way: Three Stars2013 Artpop: Three Stars2016 Joanne: Three and a Half Stars

Authentic, Well-Produced, and Simply Loveable
This is one of Lady Gaga's most well-produced albums. With producers and Grammy winning artists such as Mark Ronson, Florence Welch, Beck, BloodPop, Kevin Parker, Josh Homme, and Father John Misty involved, there is no surprise that this album is cohesive and flows so naturally. Joanne tells the story of a young New York girl whose happiness, sadness, tragic life experiences, and motivations are so relatable and carried through her music. This album is an ode to her later aunt, Joanne, whom Gaga believes would've wanted to spread messages of love, compassion, and self-care to the world if she were to be alive today. She does all that with this album and still manages to keep every song memorable, catchy, and plain gorgeous. I will for sure purchase a vinyl copy once it's available for those days when I want to relax and sing-along with my close friends. This is Gaga like we've never seen or heard her before, with no hard to understand lyrics or outfits. It's Gaga wanting to reflect her desired world in her music: easy, loving, and deep. I have been her fan since The Fame and I can tell you that it's refreshing to see an artist be capable of successfully reinventing herself and her sound. This album does not resemble her previous hits like Just Dance and Poker Face, but it does remind me of her less popular ballads. This is music that the world needs right now and will soon come to appreciate. Tracks on this album will make you smile, cry, and think deep about what our relationships with others and ourselves mean.

Soulful Gaga.
Departing from her glitzy Avant Gard electro-pop music, Stefani Germanotta delivers an album that is a mixture of country, soul, and classic rock, and it's all personal. Named after a paternal aunt that she never knew. Although in deep in the civil rights struggle for LGBT community doesn't stop her from periodically attending mass and baptisms. Letting go of God and the church is not that easy even if you have very good reasons for it. Or least that the impression I got from "Angel Down" and "Sinner's Pray"--you could almost compare them to Madonna's "Like a Prayer". Many of her tracts are drawn from her lack of a serious love life. Gaga is 30, she wants a husband, some one to hug her and tell her she is the boss even when she is crippled by chronic pain from a hip accident. (And of course about 60% of the songs out there are about lost love and sex so don't make any Taylor Swift Jokes). With many of the tracks devoid of synthesizers pop that Gag Normally bounces to, in exchange with a few acoustic instruments, you care really hear that this women has some fantastic pipes.Gaga's Documentary "Five Foot Two" is required viewing for this album, fallowing both her journal to make this album as well as her Super Bowl LI half time show. Giving a massive amount of insight into both her creative process, daily life, and even her physical and mental struggles of misfiring pain receptors.
