First bought the popular (and much cheaper) Chinese arm available on Amazon. That one was hard to adjust, hard to move out of the way (both to retract the arm and to swivel), and the microphone would not stay "tight". The RODE arm is SO MUCH BETTER. The RODE desk mount is sturdier and allows the arm to swivel easily without feeling "loose" and wobbly. The arm is very well balanced, so it extends and retracts with very little effort. The microphone locking system is perfect; easy to connect securely, but easy to remove if needed. Finally, the cable-management clips make it easy to keep the setup looking clean. Bonus, the RODE also comes with a bolt-thru desk mount if you do not like the clamp style. TLDR: Pay the extra money if you can afford it, you will be much happier with this product over cheaper options.

I read many reviews looking for comments about mounting this product on a shelf located above & in front of my workspace, but couldn't find any, so I'm providing this review as a courtesy to others looking for the same. I'm pleased to discover that this mic arm works perfectly because it stays put when you retract or extend the mic arm. I was concerned about the weight, but no issues there. The reach length is also great and easily goes downward below the shelf. When I'm not using it, I just push it upward out of the way. I like that it doesn't occupy any desk surface, and I'm not bumping into it with my elbow. Plus the mounting clamp is thick sturdy metal, not plastic. Just be sure if you do a setup like this, that your shelf is secured well to the wall studs and the shelf itself is sturdy. My mic arm is mounted approx. 3ft from where I sit and the shelf is about 2.5ft above my desk. I adjusted the distance of the mount from my desk chair to get it perfect, which is easy to do because the clamp mounting bracket is easy to move. When pushed up, the arm folds & the mic is at the same level as the shelf, and pulled down, the mic is directly in front of my mouth for speaking. I used closet shelving with basic "L" brackets from the big box hardware store for my library because it was cheaper & easier than buying furniture/bookshelves. If I need to, I can switch out the Podmic for a boom mic & it will still work nicely. Overall, the mic setup looks & works great mounted with my library, so I'm glad I spent the extra bucks for a quality product. Plus it matches my Rode Podmic! Thanks Rode. ;0)

Great product it works really well. But the clamp it comes with is horrible. it's too small so the studio arm falls out. It also is a 2inch clamp and i have a 4.1 inch desk and cannot find a clamp that works on the market. So i had to clamp it to a brick i got at home depot and then use a 10 inch clamp from home depot to clamp the brick and the mic arm to my desk. even with a 12 pound brick the brick topples over so i had to get a clamp to clamp it down to my desk. If you have a thick desk 3 inches or bigger. good luck finding something that can clamp and hold a mic arm to it. i guess that's what i get for a hardwood desk and not cheap computer desk. otherwise the mic arm does what it needs to do and has awesome cable management on it too. honestly it's way better than their old model and the things they've added/changed since 5 years ago is fantastic and reflects in the quality of the mic arm. Possible solutions to clamp would be make it bigger or at least offer me a bigger one in the market. I'm willing to pay $50 on a bigger clamp and i'd do it in a heartbeat i just want the big clamp

This is a great sturdy professional boom arm that you can use for your microphone set up! I set up a Shure SM7B microphone with this arm, and had no issues with it! It’s sturdy, it has a great range of motion, and is quite stable. I would recommend this arm if you’re looking to record videos, podcast, or stream!

The RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm has been the perfect thing for my audio setup. It holds my AT2020 and Samson SP01 spider shock mount without drooping and yet easily moves with gentle pressure. I mounted the arm on the inside corner of an L-shaped desk and I am enjoying this setup. When I'm not using it, the spring-loaded arm lets me lift it over my head and out of the way. If I want to stand while using it, I just drag it to the right level. When I'm sitting and lean back in my chair, it's easy to pull the arm forward, and when I'm facing the other side of the 'L' to work on my laptop that sits at the end of the desk, the RODE PSA1 easily swivels into position for me. It has that right balance of tension that holds the arm in place and flexibility that lets it move without me having to wrangle it to get a response. Installation of the PSA1 is fairly simple: you can clamp the base to your desk, attach the arm, and extend as desired. Tensioners let you contol how much or how little you want the ends to move at the base and the end, though the joint in the middle appears to be fixed in its tension. There is an optional threaded connector that lets you drill through a desktop and mount the arm directly into your desk for a clean professional look, but I'm content with the clamp. When unpacking the unit, pay attention to the bright yellow warning stickers: the arm is spring-loaded, so you want to be holding it together as you cut the stickers and open the product. Otherwise one side of the arm could fly out and hit something. The materials feel very solidly made, arms, spring, and turnkeys all feel like quality parts. The clamp mount feels like it's a bit less sturdy when handling it, but once mounted I've had no problems. Simple velcro strips let you secure your mic cable snugly to the arm. If you're looking for a long boom arm for your microphone, and your mic and mount weigh about the same as my AT2020 and Spider Mount, this should work just fine for you. If you have more weight on the end, some customers report problems getting the arm to stay upright. I've been very happy with the product.

I have been a RODE customer for years. And until now have used mic stands. But setting up my new studio space I needed to maximize floor space and stands just clutter up the place. I was looking for a boom arm for a while. And once I found the great reviews on the PSA1+ I was convinced. Honestly from the packaging which is first class, very protective and well thought out. To the effortless setup, which includes two attachment choices for you. 1 method is the clamp, which is a well thought out design, it has a broad and importantly FLAT connector between the two desk top piece and the under desk screw clamp. The broad flat connector means it can brace against the flat edge of your surface and stop any rotation or twisting of the mount. Method 2 a very cool looking 'in desk' solution. It requires drilling if you want to use this. But it is a very nice light gold anodized metal with cable management holes. I would have used this if I had the space on my studio desk. But I wanted it mounted right at the back of my top shelf as you see in my photos. So I can tuck the mic out of the way. I thought it might be too close to the edge to drill there. Once attached it is ROCK SOLID. With the microphone attached (my RODE mic) the arm is setup with a nice counterweight to it. Mic and arm moves as one piece and stays exactly where I put it. I did not have to adjust the tension at all, it worked right out of the box. Of course that might be more luck than anything else. But if needed both segments of the arm can have their tension increased or decreased. I looked at much cheaper alternatives and some really expensive ones above this price point. But this is the arm to choose. You won't be dissapointed.

Ich nutze das RØDE PSA1+ jetzt fast täglich für meinen Podcast und meine YouTube-Videos, und ich muss sagen: Dieses Stativ hat meine Aufnahme-Qualität massiv verbessert. Früher habe ich mit Billig-Klemmen gekämpft – das Mikrofon wackelte, rutschte oder vibrierte bei jeder kleinen Bewegung. Seit ich auf den PSA1+ umgestiegen bin, ist das komplett Geschichte! Was mich absolut überzeugt: Die Stabilität ist einfach KRASS! Egal ob ich mal energisch gestikuliere (passiert bei hitzigen Diskussionen 😉) oder mein Schreibtisch leicht wackelt – das Mikrofon bleibt genau dort, wo ich es positioniert habe. Kein Nachfedern, kein nerviges Wobbeln. Das Ding hält mein Studiomikrofon RØDE NT1 bombenfest, als wäre es in Beton gegossen. Endlich keine Angst mehr, dass mir das Mikro beim Einstellen entgegen springt! Super flexible Positionierung: Der Gelenkarm ist unglaublich geschmeidig, lässt sich aber trotzdem super fest anziehen. Ich kann das Mikro super schnell und präzise millimetergenau positionieren – ob vor meinem Mund, seitlich oder weiter oben. Und es STAYS PUT! Das spart mir so viel Zeit beim Setup. Robuste Qualität: Das Material fühlt sich hochwertig und langlebig an. Die Klemme greift super fest an meinem 5cm dicken Tisch und löst sich nicht von alleine. Die Feder im Arm arbeitet super ausbalanciert – selbst mit schwereren Mikros wie dem RØDE NT1. Der (kleine) Kritikpunkt – für bestimmte Nutzer relevant: Bei engen Talking-Head-Videos sichtbar: Das ist der EINZIGE Punkt, den ich nicht perfekt finde – aber er ist auch sehr spezifisch. Wenn du sehr eng aufgenommen wirst (z.B. nur Kopf und Schultern im Bild) und das Mikrofon sehr nah an deinem Mund haben willst, kann der Arm oder die Klemme knapp am oberen Bildrand mit ins Bild kommen. Für meinen Podcast (nur Audio) und Videos mit weiterer Einstellung ist das irrelevant, aber für meine reinen Talking-Heads-Videos meines YouTube Kanales @AlphaKrypto musste ich etwas tricksen oder die Position anpassen. Wer das Mikro extrem tief und nah haben will UND komplett unsichtbar braucht, muss vielleicht wirklich zu einem flachen Low-Profile-Stativ greichen. Für 95% meiner Arbeit ist es aber kein Problem. Höhe beachten: Der Arm hat eine maximale Höhe von 50 cm von der Schreibtisch Oberkante gemessen. In dieser Position ist der untere Arm fast senkrecht; ganz senkrecht geht nicht. Siehe dazu die 3 Abbildungen. Fazit: Das RØDE PSA1+ ist hochpreisiger, aber jeden einzelnen Cent wert! Es ist stabil wie ein Fels, unglaublich flexibel und macht einfach keinen Ärger. Die Bedienung ist intuitiv, und die Qualität spricht für sich. Wenn du professionelle Audio-Aufnahmen machen willst, ohne dass dein Mikrofon tanzt oder wackelt – hier ist deine Lösung. Der Punkt mit der möglichen Sichtbarkeit im engen Bild ist für mich verschmerzbar und hängt stark vom Setup ab. Für mich überwiegen die Vorteile absolut! Klare Kaufempfehlung – 5 Sterne ohne Wenn und Aber für Stabilität, Handling und Qualität! Und nun wünsche ich eine gute Kaufentscheidung!
