Great for Remodeling Projects
We're in the 9th month of various remodel/rehab projects in the home we purchased, and this carpet protector has been a huge help. Prior to getting this, our contractor had tried a variety of "tricks" to help protect the stairs: he had taped down cardboard (slippery, and quickly fell apart), he had used a variety of drop cloths (also slippery, and quickly bunched up). Since I'd gotten new carpet before starting some of the projects (I know ... it's just that the old stuff was so dark and awful!), I wanted to preserve it. This protector has been great. It covers most of the stair tread, and easily reaches from the 2nd floor down to the first. It has a sort of "tacky/sticky" side that clings onto the carpet underneath, mostly keeping it in place. I do have to smooth it out some mornings if we've had more traffic than usual up and down the stairs. I dump out the accumulated debris on the weekend and toss it in the wash. It dries quickly on a low heat setting, and I put it back into place where it looks like new again. Our contractor and numerous trades people (granite fabricators, electrician, plumber) have all commented favorably. It's definitely helped keep the carpet clean. So glad I found this.

Product does not work.
This product does not stick to the carpet. I had previously ordered a product from "Carpet Saver" and thought this was the same thing. It definitely is not the same. I returned this product and ordered instead from Carpet Saver. Also, it wasn't until I entered a return request that it said there would be a 15% restocking fee. This was not clear at the beginning of the return transaction.

Looks great and very effective!
I bought this for the cream-colored carpet on the stairs of my townhouse, which I could see would quickly become dirty with everyday traffic. This turned out to be the perfect solution. The fabric is thin, with a slight terry-like nap on the upper surface and foam on the underside. The foam grips carpet and tile extremely well, and the thinness of the material allows it to conform nicely to the stairs, without any wrinkles or folds. It's easily thrown into a washing machine and it comes out great. The the protection this has provided my carpet has been invaluable. It has never punctured or torn, and dirt and grime washes out easily. I'm really glad I bought this. I get a lot of compliments on it , and it's a great insurance policy for your carpet.

Needs 'tacking' on stairs
I may have read the specs wrong on this item, but without checking I recalled it saying these are good for stairs either wood or carpet. The runner is thing and is not trimmed evenly at the ends, so as you lay it you need to follow the sides judiciously. I laid it over (ned) carpet on my stairs. IMHO this is NOT safe. Realized it needed 'tacking down' but am loathe to buy expensive (even on Amazon) barks to hold it in place. Had two very old, out of use spring-loaded curtain rods for a small window and found they fit my 44" staircase quite well. Put one on each step and pushed back so it was against the rise of the next step. Voila! Went to big box store (yeah - a mistake) and got enough for the rest of the stairs - they longer have the small round ones ao I had to buy the oval ones, but still much cheaper and just a effective as the expensive metal rods cut to fit. This works very welling tacking down the runner, I believe that if someone were in a hurry or if the runner was bunched up and it went unnoticed a person or animal could tumble down the stairs easily. Otherwise: seems OK and its keeping my new carpet clean during California's back-to-back rainstorms..and my messy footed dogs(even wet-is after toweling off!)

Better options
The look is not appealing and gets dirty easily. However it does serves as protection to my carpet stairs.

These hold in place on the carpet with no tacks needed and holds up really well
I was skeptical if this would hold in place whn I bought it a year ago, however the type of two sided material they use allows the backside to almost work like velcro to your carpet to hold it in place for weeks. I am up and down the stairs to our basment alot because my workshop is down there, so a lot of trips. You do have to roll it up and lay it back in place after awhile, however you have to do this anyways to shake it out to clean it. Easy to put in place and really protects the carpet from wear. The carpet looks brand new. We remove it when we have guests over and then lay it back down in place, which takes me 2 - 3 minutes for the entires satis and landing.

Quality Not Worth The Money
This was something I got to help protect my daughter from not only carpet tacks that are poking through the carpet but also to help had some extra grip/cushion. Along with keeping stairs clean. The second I opened it and felt how thin it was I wasn't sure if I would like it especially to protect tiny hands and knees. Definitely a two person job to lay it out. If any liquids or anything gets on it, I'm pretty sure it would soak through anyways. It also attracts pet hair like crazy!! We don't even have pets living here now but what was hidden in the carpet made its appearance right away on it. Definitely not worth the cost!

maybe 2 sided tape will work.

Arrived in time. Was surprised at how thin it actually was but that is what I needed. Very pliable. Have it covering the Berber carpet on the stairs heading to the basement because those get incredibly filthy. I'm naturally slow going down a set of stairs so it is good as-is for me, but if I had busy kids racing up and down those stairs I'd be looking for a way to secure it at each step. Looking forward to seeing how it responds to being tossed in a washing machine.

This product completely failed to adhere to the carpet on my stairs. Indeed its lack of adhesive quality makes it both dangerous and most unsafe as it crumples and creates folds with every step. It would be utterly unsafe for any elderly or young people to use. The product looks NOTHING LIKE the picture. Sadly, a waste of money.

Se puede manipular muy bien pero es demasiado delgado y permite el paso del frío de la escalera.
