Must the little RF connector be placed in-line for the remote to work?

No, You can connect the light bar directly with the power supply, but then the remote control won't work. Thanks a lot

Can all the strips be put together without spaces in between ? I dont see short connectors just long space connx

Yes they can. You will notice that the strips have a female connector on one end and a male connector on the other end. The kit also includes small connectors that change the gender.
