It darkens up to halfway, but turning further makes the image brighter instead of darker. The adjustment is inconsistent, so I believe it is faulty. Updated review after replacement I initially received a faulty filter, which is why my original review was negative. The variable ND did not behave correctly — it darkened up to a point, then became brighter instead of darker, making the adjustment inconsistent and unusable. However, after contacting customer support, I received a replacement, and I’m happy to say that the new filter works as expected. The exposure adjustment is now smooth and consistent across the range. There is a small usability point worth mentioning: the orange handle is positioned quite far from the indicator mark on the ring, which can make it slightly awkward to adjust on a larger lens without getting your hand in front of the lens. That said, this is more of a design inconvenience than a fault.
