I love the detail and the number of variations it throws in for the throwing techniques. This is not however a comprehensive book and will not provide any ground work or kata. This is just Here is Tai Otoshi, Here is the first way, then it will go through key points and some variations. The problem I have with this book as they dont always have pictures lining up with the descriptions and not as many pictures as you would like. So if you are hoping for a picture to sell the throw you will not get that for a lot of the variations. There will be like 1 or 2 per description for most. The descriptions are very details and thorough however can be somewhat confusing at times. It works well to take them step by step with someone. This is a book for students and instructors, I would say mid level judoka and up. I would say it is a good book for beginners but there are better for beginners then this. If you are needing details and variation this will do it for you. If you are looking for easy laid out descriptions that pair with pictures for each step of the way, this is not the book to start with. I highly recommend this book but caution those new to the sport as this was not my go to until I got past sankyu. Review: Hardcover and lots of pictures - I purchase this book for my daughter who is taking Judo lessons again. Her instructor is letting her help teaching the little kids. This book is helping her a lot. Hardcovers have better pictures too.
