A stunning new story of hope, humanity and high-seas adventure for children and adults everywhere from Sir Michael Morpurgo, the nationโs favourite storyteller and multi-million copy bestselling author of WAR HORSE. โWe were the truth of our own story. Me, and the two tiny people on my shoulder, in the middle of the seaโฆโ War has forced Omar and his mother to leave their home in Afghanistan and venture across the sea to Europe. When their boat sinks, and Omar finds himself alone, with no hope of rescue, it seems as if his story has come to an end. But it is only just beginning. Because in the end, a little hope makes a big differenceโฆ A thrilling adventure inspired by the classic story of Gulliverโs Travels, this is also a gripping modern narrative of rescue and refuge, from a writer at the height of his powers. A book about breaking down walls, at a time when many are trying to build them. And a timeless reminder of humanityโs infinite capacity for goodโฆ even when those humans are very small indeed. Perfect for fans of David Walliams, Michelle Magorian and Katherine Rundell! Review: Great storytelling - My 11yr old son thoroughly enjoyed this book. He said it was a real page-turner and loved the humour and drama in the story. Lovely illustrations too. Review: 10 stars from us.. - Over the years I have read thousands of books to my children, and now my grandchildren. Of all the authors, Michael Morpego stand head and shoulders above the rest. There is always a moral in the text which is invaluable to a child growing up in this world today. I was thrilled to learn that my grandson's teacher has MM on his curriculum. We appear to have been one book ahead of him all term? Our latest read The Boy Giant is amazing. It had my 11 year old and I crying to begin with, and I thought it might be a bit too much for bedtime. But I put the book down and we talked about the plight of asylum seekers, which was a very valuable opportunity for my grandson to express his feelings about the futilities of wars. His suggestion was, "Why don't all the leaders who create wars, sit down and play a game of chess." (To alleviate their need to win?) A bit simplistic, but never the less, he got to think about the subject, and he actually cares. He especially liked the part where MM slipped in that we should all take the time to learn another language, to be able to communicate and include others in our lives.. I also liked that it incorporated the original Gulliver's Kingdom. We are only two thirds the way through at present, as I read it on sleepover night. He is going on holiday at the end of the school year, Wednesday, and wants to take it to finish, because he can't wait another two weeks. He always takes the finished book home, to re read in bed with his torch... His absolute favourite was Kensuke's Kingdom, followed by Born to Run, Elephant in my Garden, Eagle in the Snow, and of course War Horse, and the rest.... That is the beauty of MM for me.. Once you begin to read, you cannot put it down. I find myself continuing to read the books, long after my grandson has fallen asleep... and just can't wait for the next one.. The Butterfly Lion... My youngest age 6, is into Famous Five, Secret Seven, Swallows and desertcarts, Indian in my Cupboard, Borrowers, Faraway Tree, Stig of the Dump and anything to do with Dinosaurs or the Planets.. but he often wakes to listen to the MM books and interacts. (I know these off by heart, because, some were classics from my childhood, and they were also my children's firm favourites)

Intriguing
This is a tricky book to review...a contemporary interwoven with the fantasy of Swiftโs Gulliver.Does it work.? On the whole, yes! Exploring the contemporary ( or eternal tragedy) of families escaping oppression and war whilst weaving in the world of Lilliput. I was left wondering if the relationship between Lilliputian and Blefuscans was mirroring the current post referendum divide and individuals wanting to control lives. Heavy for children but the message of unity between all people is strong I donโt want to make it seem heavy ... this is classic Morpurgo to be enjoyed by children from 7 to the young at heart adults
