Can you put a 5 gallon barrel of water on top of this?

No, the 5 gallon barrel of water is to big will not fit plus it would not allow the hatch to open properly, is recommended to buy a smaller container such as 2 or even 3 gallon container of water that would have a smaller barrel.

has anyone expierenced any loud noises coming from their units while making ice?

It depends what part of the cycle you are talking about. When I start mine, I can hear the water pump start and the refrigeration unit kick on. These are not very loud, but I can hear them from maybe 10 ft away. When the ice is ready, you can hear a motor sound as it pushes the ice out. This you can hear from about 15 ft. away and it stops as soon as the ice is free and clear.

Is there a recommended water bottle for this unit? It appears that "lid" is designed to use a non-spill water bottle. Suggestions appreciated!

I don’t know. I don’t use a water bottle. I fill it up from a filtered water machine that I have attached to my sink. It makes a lot of ice though. It’s a great machine.

Has anyone found a water jug that fits this? The whole reason I bought this one was so I did not have to refill it all the time.
