How sorely wrong those incompetent critics are.Canon? kinda-sorta, not exactly.In the games, you have NPC's you see many of with no "titled name" like the countless Ironforge Riflemen in the Dwarven District. That is why there will be names of characters you have never heard before. Technically this movie is adding to the lore while keeping with what we already know and diverging from it somewhat. Because, well, it's a movie with characters, who need names so it doesn't suck.Technically, the story of this movie is based off the lore that was never written for the game "Warcraft: Orcs and Humans" (WOaH) and if that game were to be re-done with lore and graphics as in depth and epic as "World of Warcraft"(WoW). WOaH was released about 20 years ago iirc. It was an RTS game that was predominantly about having tons of fun with as little story as possible. Through WoW, other games, novels, and some miscellaneous material released by Blizzard the lore for WOaH has been uncovered. This lore is an integral part of what makes WOaH, WoW, and everything else so captivating from a storytelling standpoint. To an extent, to fully understand everything little thing in this movie you need some basic knowledge base. However, it is a great portal to allow people to enter the WoW lore universe. But please keep in mind that WOaH lore is supposed to be somewhat separate from the lore of WoW even though there are elements within WOaH that are connected to WoW.You don't have to be a WoW fan to enjoy this movie. Although the lore is like the Orb of Mystery to our Depleted-Kyparium Rocket. If you love fantasy please by all means watch this. Be careful, don't become consumed. 10/10 would watch again.Now, if you do feel like you want to know a lot more and really dive into the WoW universe I'd recommend doing one or both of the following:1. Play Word of Warcrafta. Request to join the guild on Gilneas-US Alliance.b. focus on questing primarily, some dungeons, many raids.c. Look up quest topics and dungeons plus who is inside on wowwiki.
