They foam inside the dishwasher during use covering every square inch. Once going through the rinse cycle, they leave no residue and my LG front loading washing machine looks and smells like new. They have no fragrance whatsoever which is what you want. The other brands have a fragrance that can mask the smell of a still dirty washing machine. These have no scent so I know my machine has no residual odors. I clean my washing machine once a month with these using the tub wash setting.
