Worth every penny!
This system was truly a lifesaver. I had an aggressive thumb sucker, so much so that her teeth were starting to move forward and she had huge blisters/callouses on both of her thumbs. She sucked to go to sleep, ride in the car, even while she was talking she would sometimes refuse to take her thumb out of her mouth. We tried everything: educating her on the bad effect the thumb sucking was having on her teeth, bad tasting nail polish, discouraging her sucking during sit-down times, bribing with daily rewards, but nothing seemed to work. We let her know that we were going to help her stop the habit with these devices, and showed her the star chart included. When the chart is finished, we told her, she would be getting a ride-on toy she has been wanting. We also tied permission to watch her favorite tv show to be dependent upon her completing the previous day successfully without sucking her thumb. Warning: the first week was HARD. The first two days I had adjusted the band too tight, and the device ended up leaving red marks on her hands. On the third day, we found a fit that worked for us, and though *technically* she could get out of it, we warned if she did so we would tighten the device further and it encouraged her to leave it on. Even so, the sucking had already dropped dramatically on day 1, by day 3 she only sucked to try to get a reaction from us, and by day 7 she realized the daily rewards and her favorite TV show were more valuable than the lackluster reward of her diminished thumb sucking abilities with the device. Bedtime was a constant nightmare that first week as she learned how to fall asleep without her thumb crutch. Day 8 was the first day she went all day without sucking her thumb, and with only one time when she was really upset on day 22, she never tried sucking again. By day 25, I started taking the device off for very dirty activities, like play dough or cookie baking, then putting it back on. By day 29 we phased out of the device entirely, and she is currently on her 4th day without wearing the device at all and still no thumb sucking. It’s a miracle! Pros: design, toddler may like the choice of wrist bands, easily washable Cons: Lots of people will judge you for putting the device on your child (not that I cared), the device will start to get tinged over time, and getting the right fit is a bit difficult at first. It’s expensive if you need two devices like I did. I also wouldn’t recommend this unless your toddler is verbal enough to understand why you’re doing it and the reward system you set up for them. Overall, if I had to do this all over again, I would buy this system in a heartbeat. It is the only thing that has produced results, and it took less than 60 days to do so. Would highly recommend!!!

This Actually Works
Our little one started sucking his thumb as soon as he found it at around 4 months old and quit using any other pacifier. Now he's 2 years old (26 months to be exact) and we were ready to ditch the thumb sucking as his teeth were starting to shift because of it. We tried the bitter tasting nail polish at first and it had minimal impact. I was a little hesitant when I first saw the price of this Thumb Guard, but when compared to dental appliances, palate expanders, and orthodontics later in life - the cost of this is negligible. The first time I put this on, my little one was distracted with TV and snacks. After he noticed it, he didn't seem to mind and NEVER complained about it for the weeks to come. He was still able to eat, drink, play while wearing the Thumb Guard. We did notice a couple tantrums within the first 3 days of wear as he had to learn alternative coping mechanisms and a few of his naps were short as he had to learn how to fall asleep without his thumb - be prepared for these behavior change hurdles! The one and only time his skin showed any signs of irritation was when our Nanny changed out the band and fastened it too loosely. When the band is loose, everything can shift around and irritate the skin. When the wrist band and device fit snug, we did NOT experience any irritation. After 1 WEEK of Wear - we attempted to remove the device. Our little one went back to thumb sucking within a few hours. So we put the device back on. After 2 WEEKS of Wear - we attempted to remove the device. Our little one did great for about 2 days! Then I caught him sucking his thumb in bed. So we put the device back on. After 3 WEEKS of Wear - we removed the device and have NOT had any more thumb sucking! This 1000% works with consistency. He wore the device 24/7 through wake time and sleeps. We only took it off during baths (every other day). Because we only changed it every other day, we still have plenty of wrist bands remaining if needed, at least 10 extras. I would easily and highly recommend this Thumb Guard for anyone who is looking to stop their child's thumb sucking.

Just what I needed for my son, I helped him leave his dependence with his finger, I like that you can change the garters and it fits his hand, it is easy to wash and comfortable

Our dentist recommended this and it worked like a charm. Our 4 year old sucked her thumb CONSTANTLY (day & night) but after wearing this for a month, she does not self soothe this way any longer. She naturally tries other strategies and we are impressed! At first, it took a bit of adapting, but after a couple days she was used to it and wore it easily. Very much recommend.

Expensive and doesn't last long.actually a very good product. Will do the job with some patience and if your child is not old enough to take it off. My 6 year old chewed it until it broke and resumed sucking. Think will work for much younger kids who haven't figured out they could chew it
