Review: Flexibility, Simplicity and Speed - some products are just perfect. - Flexibility: I like a big (12 fl oz) cup of strong black coffee first thing in the morning. It was difficult to find a quality pour over maker that takes the entire 12 ounce serving in a single pour. As with any pour over maker I can adjust the amount of grounds to add as wells the ability to blend the flavors used. So I now have the flexibility to get the full desired serving size, adjust the strength of my coffee and brew it from my own chosen blends. Simplicity: I set up my coffee maker before bed time and have one of those instant hot water dispensers at the sink. So all I need to do in the morning is draw 12 ounces of instant hot water, pour the entire serving into the reservoir and replace the lid (to hold in the heat). Speed: In a matter of about 2 minutes, my customized cup of coffee is waiting at the perfect temperature to enjoy immediately - no cooling needed. What about K pods? I have been a serious fan of K pod coffee for decades but I never met one that could all of the above. I did not run the numbers regarding cost or savings (yet) but my gut feel tells me that using ground coffee instead of the prepackaged K pods has got to be more economical. The Process: Step 1). Place a (brown) #2 paper filter in the hopper and add whatever amount or blend of ground coffee you want (I like Starbucks Verona and Peet's Sumatra 50-50) and I make it with 2 TBS of each flavor (4 total per serving). Put the hopper (containing the filter and grounds) on an empty mug. Put the clear plastic reservoir on top of the hopper, then put the lid on top to help keep it fresh until you actually pour (which for me is the next morning). Step 2). Add hot water in whatever amount delivers your favorite strength. This takes a bit of practice. As mentioned (for me) it is 12 fl oz of instant hot water to 4 table spoons of custom blended grounds. Step3). Wait a few minutes. The bottom of the clear plastic reservoir has 8 small holes arranged in a circular pattern that get positioned over the grounds in the hopper below. The reservoir holes are of two different sizes. I assume this causes water to flow at different rates over different parts of the grounds, which I think has a bearing on the quality of the brew as it is extracted. The bottom of the hopper (beneath the filter) has a single hole that I believe drains more slowly than the water coming in from the reservoir. This allows the brew to accumulate a little bit soaking the grounds before the coffee drains out completely which I presume affects the quality of the brew that ends up in my mug. Step 4). Enjoy! Note: If I had to use only this method for all my coffee, it would be too inconvenient. But breaking the prep process into 2-parts (one before bed time and one upon waking) helps make using this system simple and fast. So if I want a second cup but without bothering with measuring grinds or water I use a K pod as I still believe you can't beat the K pods for convenience but you cannot adjust the strength, flavor or serving size with a K pod without affecting the results. Bottom Line for the Review: I fully intend to use the pour over and the K pod coffee systems but am absolutely sold on the Pour Over system for my first cup of morning coffee. If you want to be able to adjust such things as serving size, strength, and custom blends for your coffee, I highly recommend this product.
Review: Easy, inexpensive, & good cup of coffee - Made my first cup this morning. The process was simple & the coffee came out so much better than my very cheap single-serve K-Cup & grounds option machine I've been using (which broke a few days ago). We've been living in our RV for over a year, and will continue to for a few more months until our house is built, so I need something small for now. I already have an electric kettle that we use for tea. I didn't bother with digging my kitchen scale out of storage. I don't care to spend money on a coffee grinder; I'm perfectly satisfied with pre-ground coffee. I'm just not one of those who enjoy the time & effort involved in playing around with the ratios and recipes that go along with a traditional pour-over coffee setup. My husband had all of that, including a fancy goose-neck kettle and grinder, and a Chemex, a few years ago, before he gave up coffee altogether. Cleanup of the OXO was a breeze. Just what I was looking for to make a quick and very good-tasting cup of coffee. I'm very satisfied.

**Q: Some holes seem to be draining slower than others. Is this a problem?**

I'm Rebecca with OXO. Thank you for your question! We designed the Water Tank on the OXO Good Grips Pour Over Coffee Maker to have a very precise flow rate through the use of different sized holes. As the pressure in the tank decreases, certain holes stop flowing while others continue to drain. This balance allows our Pour Over Coffee Maker to achieve the ideal brew time for a well-balanced extraction and, ultimately, a great cup of coffee!

**Q: How can i stop the plastic taste? i've washed it repeatedly. is it because of the plastic melting? i've only used stainless steel before now.**
A: I don't worry.  Water boils at 212 deg.F.  According to a chart from a plastics company PVC has the lowest melting point at 320 deg. F.    The melting point of the material this product is made from is much higher.  On the order of 500 deg F

**Q: Are there parts of this that are plastic? If so, which parts?**
A: All of the parts are plastic.

**Q: Will the size 2 paper filters give me 12 oz of coffee with one fill up?**
A: I use this every morning and so far have not been disappointed.  The size 2 paper filter has given me a very close 12 oz of coffee.  I think some of the fluid “loss” is due to the water being soaked into the coffee grounds.  I measured 12oz of plain water in a coffee cup I usually used and found maybe less than an ounce was removed.  I have to say the coffee ends up tasting just right to me.  This dropper system is highly recommended by me.

1-30-26 Amazon review for OXO Pour-over Coffee Maker I can't say enough about this coffee maker.... I wasted a lot of years & money using other types: Nespresso, Keurig, Ninja, Cuisinart, stove-top percolator. All terrific machines and great coffee. However, my new OXO Pour-over Coffee Maker is by far my favorite - easy, simple, quiet - Zen like actually😊. No pods/capsules going into landfills. No plastic taste because coffee water wasn't heating up enough. No need to descale, no need to clean a carafe. I got the white and it's beautiful... super quality & durability - and an extra for my emergency Go Bag... 'juss sayin'. I am an older senior citizen, so really appreciate the large handle and that the whole unit is so lightweight. The little holes in the water cup work perfectly to slowly pour over the coffee grounds. No need for a snooty skinny long-neck pot 😉. BTW I use my whistling tea kettle - for safety reasons - no melted percolator pot (oops). I have a small black cup in the morning, a large mug with sugar & cream in the afternoon. Easy to figure how to adjust the coffee and water accordingly. All 3 pieces fit together perfectly - gently falling into place. Highly, highly recommend!
